Me and some buddies heard they were tearing it up in our local swamp. Never tried it, so we gave it a shot with some traps and caught a decent mess. We heard to put em in fresh water for about a day to clean em out which we have done. Wondering, can you freeze em once you clean em out and cook em later like shrimp or whether you gotta eat em then.

Figured we might use some for bush hooks too!

Down here we can buy the chinese crawfish - cleaned cooked & bagged - in the frozen department at Kroger

Not as good as fresh but - not bad either - when you want 'em outa season

i meant cleaning em out with fresh water. I've read that if you leave em in the clean water with an aerator for about a day, it gets alot of the muddy, swampy taste out of em. Just wondering if you can store em for later, if not, might have to find some people to sell em to around here, cuz this stuff is fun.

We have kept them alive in a kid's wade pool
till the next weekend before when we had more
than we could eat at one gathering

just keep them in the shade in a cool place with
an inch or two of clean water

but I think freezing before cooking would be a bad idea

There's a dozen or more.... it has to be marked on da package where it's from. If it don't say product of Louisiana DON'T BUY IT! And make sure you let them know why.

The only ding I have on our domestic commercial fisheries is that they will wwaaayyyy overfish a stock and then bitch because there are none left. Shit, we got watermen up here getting paid NOT to fish and crab. Hell, they basically shut down the winter dredge for ONE YEAR and things are looking a little better...the crabbers are fit to be tied because they can't go catch all the crabs right now.
The fisherman are worse. They just poach the fish with drift nets. If the man shows up, they let the net go and kill shitpiles of Rockfish. If the man doesn't catch em then, they haul it in and make a shitpot of money. Getting caught after the fact is a slap on the wrist. I bet they laugh all through the "trial and sentencing".
Let the fish cops catch me with one sow in the spawning zone and you bet your ass I'm getting a healthy ticket. These guys bring in a trawler, make 50 grand, pay 3 grand in fines and back out on the water.
Other than that, I'm cool with it.
