Post subject:  cream of mushroom in a jambalaya?

Now my old man taught me the basics of cookin a jam years ago...
Before I actually cooked my first one (which was by my self) I went around an asked all the old cooks around how they did it. You know the old men that cook at all the local weddings that just love to sit around an stir a pot...
Well it comes out alot of them use cream of mushroom, so I did to!
Sometimes I'd forget to buy a can to put in it and it would come out good any way...
This weekend in a small friendly mini pot comp, my cream of mush room turned my water into a gravy n started to burn when I boiled my meat... I took 2nd but man was I disapointed!
It was 1 hell of a dark jam!
My question is does cream of mush room really add any noticeable flavor?
I never could really tell I know I added to much to that mini pot but within portion of my normal recipe..
Thoughts of cream of mushroom r mushroom soup?

My thoughts on this. My families jambalaya recipe doesn't call for it. In our recipe you add your rice after your stock and veggies and meat has been cooking for a good while and the rice soaks up the extra stock. That way when you serve it it's already all mix up with ya rice. I think the cream of mushroom is to reduce cooking time and thicken it up instead of reducing everything down perhaps?

It's simple. get a mud motor. shoot ducks in the face.

I use creme of mushroom in my jambalya and dirty rice but dont add it untill i ready to mix my rice. I precook my long grain indtead of using parboil. For my dirty rice if i dont use creme of mushroom i use eggplant

I know a guy that uses cream of chicken soup. His was one of the best I tasted. And he would cook for games, his was consistent for the two years he cooked them. Always good.
