That is Jack Jesse and Lisa Kelly. They were running push-trucks for the largest haul of the year. Another driver was driving the pull truck - hauling a large modular building up to Prudhoe Bay. It took up the entire road. When they got to inclines, which was throughout the entire trip, Jack and Lisa would push the trailer to keep the pull truck from spinning and sliding back down the hill. The History Channel crew was there with them and that haul will most certainly be on the show. We were filmed, but doubtful if you will see my shining face on the TV. Ford Motor Co. is a sponsor of the show as well and they had a brand new F350 dually up there running as a pilot for the haul (as well as carrying the History Channel folks). They had a little "run-in" with a moose. It certainly could have been a LOT worse ... Dalton Highway Images -35 Degrees when we pulled into Prudhoe Bay at around 1:00am. Your nose hairs freeze when you inhale at those temps and they thaw when you exhale, but the condensation from your breath adds to the freezing effect the next time you inhale. Anyone up for a boat ride? |

Yes, Lisa is even better looking in person. There was also some nice scenery for the Iditarod. This is Kristy Berington. She is 25 and her twin sister was there to help with the dog handling. It's her rookie run on the Iditarod. Wow. More about Kristy here: http://www.iditarod.com/race/race/mushe ... r_347.html |

The History Channel is running an Ice Road Truckers marathon all day today (Saturday). Kind of funny - sitting here watching the people I met and the road I travelled last week. I'm also glued to the up-to-the-minute Iditarod coverage online. Each of the mushers have satellite tracking devices that list their current positions, speeds and air temperatures all overlayed on a map. There is also listings of current team dog counts, checkpoint stations and multiple daily video clips from along the trail. The picture of me above is with Dallas Seavey. That is also him leaving out of Willow - the official starting point of the Iditarod (bib number 41). He just turned 23 last week and this is his 4th Iditarod. He is trying to become the youngest to ever win the race. He was the first musher into the Cripple checkpoint (the half-way point) and was awarded a nice trophy along with $3000 in Alaskan gold nuggets. Currently, he is in 9th place and just pulled into the Nulato Checkpoint at mile 563.7 along the trail. The leader, Jeff King, is currently stopped on the trail at mile 597. The leaders are riding down the Yukon River, heading West. It is -13 degrees. |

Freaking awesome pics. Thanks for sharing. Two questions: 1) Was this a work trip? 2) What's the deal with all the stickers on the James W Dalton Highway sign? |
