Tim,
You will be the proudest papa in the world when you see him at graduation in his dress blues. Its only 11 weeks and one full week he just has mess hall duty. Its gonna be a hot sumbuck there but he can handle it. Remind him not to volunteer for anything and whatever he does dont show up with your hair buzzed off.

Tim its Parris Island

the shit dont hit the fan for him until he has been there about four days, then DIs come bursting in out of nowhere. Lots of paper work and such the first few days on the island.

Is he going fulltime or reserves ?

Volunteering during Marine Corp boot camp is a no no cause the DI's (Drill instructors) will be harder on you and will continually use you as an example time after time and then force you to volunteer from then on. You want to go unnoticed as a recruit or it will be that much harder.
Showing up with a shaved head is sorta an insult to Marines there, they think you think your already a Marine just buy swearing in and showing up. Not a good thing. Might be like getting a tatoo of gang before you are admitted to the gang.

David, this is not meant as an attack but,,,,,,,,,,,,,

what the hell do you know about USMC Training?

The shit hits the fan when you step off the bus,,,,,,,,and don't slow down for several days.

He won't start any training for four of five days but as soon as he steps on the yellow foot prints it's on like Donkey Kong.

And they don't grad in Blues,,,,,,,,,,,,,,they will graduate in summer alpha's.

Tim,,,,,,,,call me if you have any questions.

You will/should get a telegram from the Red Cross in about 24 hours letting you know that he has arrived and possibly what platoon and company he has been assigned to for purposes of a mailing address.

Kook, the whole, "don't volunteer" crap is sort of a civilian bastardization of just keeping your mouth shut and doing what you are told.

It takes about a 3-5 days for 90% of the recruits to figure out the routine and settle in to process. Some never get it figured out and those are the ones that struggle.

Pay attention, do what your told and stay squared away, Basic is a cake walk.

Also, remind him the whole thing is basically a mind fork. Just put quit out of your mind for a while and he'll be OK. A lot of folks in worse shape, dumber, slower and clumsier have made it through!

Just caught this Tim and not to worry he is in good hands.

Although I served in the Army, I do have a few friends that are Marines and they are all stand up guys.

One of them still gives me a hard time about the teddybear we sent him his 5th week into training .

You step off the bus a little nervous and apprehensive, all is quite for just about 5 seconds and then your world gets rocked. Congrats and tell him he is in our prayers.

He will become a changed man after his feet hit the ground on those ol' yellow footprints at P.I.

Good to go...always faithful...they stand the watch all over the world, on land, sea and air. He will do you proud, and will learn the history and serve the Corps proudly. God bless...
