Daughter in Abi Dhabi and then Greece
My second daughter is currently in Abu Dhabi for a week, then will be in Greece for two weeks with her boyfriend who's father immigrated from Greece to the U.S. as a child. With the euro bailout referendum set for tomorrow and the massive protests on both sides of the issue occurring during the lead up to it, I'm wondering if it's a bad time to be in Greece right now? I don't know if the whole country might have a meltdown resulting in instability and violence. Health care is in shambles and banks are closed. I'm hoping things will turn out alright but I'm worried.

Re: Daughter in Abi Dhabi and then Greece
I just got back from a trip to France, Italy, and Greece. In Greece, cash is king and you can buy lots of stuff at 50-75% off, for cash. You can even pay with US dollars and skip conversion fees.
Note: gangs of pickets pockets in Europe are out of control. Hide cash is front pockets, hidden money belts. Wear dark clothes, sunglasses, thin belts, and thin shoes. I buy local clothes to fit in, so I can walk around safer. I also carry a sucker wallet with crappy non working charge cards in it and maybe a few bucks ( this gives the picket pockets something to focus on other then your real wallet) . I also use a combo travel lock on my backpack after someone opened it up once at a train station without me knowing until they were done. I have had a picket pocket steal my cash and passport one time too, at a french local airport, after that, I have made sure to stay ahead of their game.
Camera are safe, your iPhone is not. Turn you iphone tracker and remote locker on. Download offline maps for buses and subways at your hotel wifi.

Re: Daughter in Abi Dhabi and then Greece
I'm not expert on Greece culture, but similar to Italian. For Women, sunglasses are important. In Italy , if a women makes direct eye contact and smiles, that is considered and invattion. So best for a wife to wear glasses and not give friendly smiles, it may create a bad situation for husband, and her.
Also, lots of gypsee or slaved girls whose job is to distract you for the pick pockets. So don't even flinch or slow down when they ask you to sign some bogus petition. They hang around train stations and big tourist areas. Simply wave them off and act like a local who is not the least bit interested. If you act confused or interested, you become a traget, they will follow you and become agreesive. Sounds cruel, but don't even reconize their existence. If they ask you if you are English, ignore them, just another way to target you or distract you .
Accept no random or friendly help on the street. If you need help, go to a store or restaraunt, or official.
Always carry some euro one and two euro coins. Restrooms can be hard to find. Many decent ones require a euro coin or two. In areas without good restrooms, it is come to go to a pub or restaaraunt, they always have one. Stores do not. Some may ask you to buy something, most will not. If needed, buy a coke from them. This is more important for your sister then guys. For my wife, the public WC always concerned me, so we stopped at many pubs for drinks.
If she does all that, she should have no issues.
