Post MN gun owners and others coming to a state near you beware!!
Take a look at these new laws if passed will have a big impact on the guns most of us "might" own today. There is a list of contact information should you chose to let your voice be heard.

Southern boys/other states -- assume if they aren't on you yet they will be. Looks like I might need to move back down to TX sooner than I planned.

Also a good read - http://www.cnn.com/2013/01/31/opinion/k ... ?hpt=hp_t2

For Immediate Release
Today, January 31st, several anti-gun bills were introduced into the Minnesota House. Not one of these bills addresses the criminal misuse of firearms, but creates new categories of criminals that mainly include lawful gun owners. NOTE a list of the Minnesota Public Safety Committee members is at the end of this alert. We are urging all Minnesota firearm owners to call them and e-mail today with your opposition to these draconian gun laws being proposed.

HF0237
Fee of up to $25 for a Permit to Purchase... Police can extend processing time from 7 days to 30 days.

... Makes a permit to carry only good for purchasing firearms up to 1 year after issue.

All transfers MUST be done at a licensed dealer. Dealers can't charge more than $25 for the transfer.

Loans extending past 24 hours must go through FFL.

HF0238 – Alters language of 609.66
This bill makes it a felony to carry a firearm on school property for persons who have a permit to carry a pistol. Currently it is a misdemeanor for someone who has a permit to carry. The question is why? Is there a problem where permit holders are carrying illegally on school property now? If not why change the law and target ONLY carry permit holders?
HF239 – Posted businesses (establishments)
Currently it is a petty misdemeanor and a $25 fine and your gun cannot be confiscated and you cannot be arrested if you are asked to leave a posted establishment and do not. The proposed law HF0239 changes existing law and provides for a GROSS Misdemeanor for the first time and a felony for the second and subsequent occurrences if a permit holder does not leave when asked.
Again, has there been a problem with permit holders being asked to leave who don’t leave? If not what is the purpose of this law other than to step on the necks of lawful carry permit holders?
HF-0240 – Sheriffs can require a mental health professional sign off on someone in order for that person to get a permit to carry.
The proposed law is so broadly worded it could be ripe for abuse. It is neither a good law nor a well written law.
HR-0241 – Assault Weapons
Defines "Assault Weapon" as ANY:

Semi-automatic that has the capacity to accept a detachable magazine and has one or more of the following:
a rifle or shotgun with a pistol grip or thumbhole stock,
any feature capable of functioning as a protruding grip that can be held by the nontrigger hand,
a folding or telescoping stock,
or a shroud attached to the barrel or that partially or completely encircles the barre.
That has the capacity to accept more than SEVEN rounds of ammunition.
This bill bans from ownership any firearm that accepts detachable magazines and fixed magazines (of a specified size) and also includes shotguns and pistols.
This is a total rewrite of 624.712 Subdivision 7. And adds a prohibited section 624.7133 making it “unlawful for any person to manufacture, import, transfer, or possess an assault weapon. (624.7133 Subd. 2)
The bill requires current owners (if eligible) to register their firearms by September 1 2013, remove them from the state of Minnesota, or turn them into a law enforcement agency for destruction.
This is such an overreaching bill it is difficult to know where to begin. It ushers in gun registration for virtually all semi-automatic rifles, pistols and shotguns in use today. It also deprives Minnesotans of their property through forced surrender of their firearms to law enforcement.
We have had our current “assault Weapons” bill on the books for years and it has worked well. There is not a big problem with semi-automatic rifles in Minnesota.
On a national scale, rifles account for approx. 350 deaths a year compared to nearly 500 deaths a year from hammers. Our legislature in all their wisdom should be looking at Home Depot and not Colt. Doctors account for over 195,000 accidental deaths annually. Far more than all firearms combined.
The question again is why is this bill even being suggested when military style rifles (aka assault rifles) are not a problem in Minnesota?
In the U.S. Supreme Court decision of Miller, the high court ruled that firearms in common use and having some utility to a military purpose would be protected by the 2nd Amendment. It is precisely these firearms that the legislature is considering banning that the high court said would be protected.
HF 241 – Ban on high capacity magazines
This bill would ban any magazine capable of holding over 10 rounds.
This is an arbitrary number driven by politics and not by science or study. The Minnesota legislature has decided to dictate to law abiding men and women what some bureaucrat believes is sufficient firepower to be used in self-defense. Ten rounds may not be enough if one is faced with multiple attackers. And yet, these legislators believe they have some mystical crystal ball that would otherwise guarantee your safety and ours.

Prohibits the above mentioned "Assault Weapons"
No grandfathering...

Any person who, on February 1, 2013, legally owns or is in possession of an assault weapon has until September 1, 2013, to do any of the following without being subject to prosecution under Minnesota Statutes, section 624.7133:
(1) remove the weapon from the state;
(2) surrender the weapon to a law enforcement agency for destruction;
(3) render the weapon permanently inoperable; or
(4) if eligible, register the weapon as provided in Minnesota Statutes, section 624.7133, subdivision 5.

Heard about that after Katrina. Clearly wasn't legal, but it happened anyway. I don't think there'd be much you could, or would do in that situation-in a car/boat with family, confronted with several armed officers asking for them. However, being confronted by armed police in one's own house, on one's own property would be entirely different. I'm not saying I'd get in a gun fight, but some would, and most wouldn't simply say yes, sir, and hand them over. Which then begs the question-what would law enforcement do next when they're standing outside a locked door to a private residence with someone who they know has guns they're not going to give up on the other side? I'd like to think that, one, it won't come to confiscation, and, two that if it did, law enforcement in pro gun rights states/areas wouldn't even attempt to enforce them. Some sheriffs in other states have said they won't. The way they'll leverage you into giving them up/complying is by making it too hard not to by things like garnishing you wages, fining you through your taxes via the IRS, making it so you can get a home/auto/boat/etc. loan through banking laws, making it impossible to register a boat/car or renew you driver's license. I thiink wage garnishment via the IRS would be the most likely, and there won't be a damn thing you can do about it. What're we going to do-sue them? Wouldn't matter what the local LE's did or didnt enforce either because it would be federal, and as we all have seen-they'll use whatever means necessary (legal or not) to accomplish their goals. Best thing would be to prevent it from getting to that point, because when it does, we're screwed.

I am reading "The Great New Orleans Gun Grab" by Gordon Hutchinson and Todd Masson. Fascinating stories of the NOPD, Louisiana State Police , Some Local Sheriff's like St. Tammany and some out of state Police departments taking part in sub human behavior to law abiding citizens.

I really cannot believe that our own state police would do this over and over. I understand the NOPD, there is a fine line between thug and law officer there. From what I read the best people were from the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries agents, most but not all National Guard and the 82nd Airborne.

What we need to do is get every sheriff , police chief and mayor to make sure that this will not happen again to law abiding citizens doing nothing but looking after their property by signing some sort of legal paperwork. This was ridiculous what they did.

Next, vote out all these anti gun types from the dog catcher to the President of the US. On every level. And try to persuade at least a few people that would vote for them to vote against them. We have quite a few here from Louisiana, please vote out Sad Sister Mary Landrieau and all her types. She votes in lock step with all the anti gun types and those that only push taxes on us.
