Post Tomorrow's a big day
Email from the National Assc. for Gun Rights that I got today:

Dear Sir,

There’s so much to update you on.

The fight inside the halls of Congress changes literally every five minutes.

But one thing is for sure . . .

Tomorrow, the United States Senate will vote on the motion to proceed to President Obama’s gun control legislation.

If Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is able to break Senator Rand Paul’s filibuster, all bets are off.

Senators Pat Toomey (R-PA) and Joe Manchin (D-WV) struck a last-minute “deal,” which hands the gun-grabbers virtually everything they’ve been calling for since this fight began in the wake of the Newtown tragedy.

But this is no surprise when you consider news I heard from one inside source at the Capitol.

Senator Chuck Schumer actually drafted the legislation behind the scenes!

That’s why it’s absolutely vital you call your Senators IMMEDIATELY.

Sen. Mary Landrieu: (202) 224-5824

Sen. David Vitter: (202) 224-4623

Please urge them to “Stand With Rand” and oppose the motion to proceed to any bill that’s designed to serve as a vehicle to RAM President Obama’s gun control scheme into law.

Of course, yesterday and again this morning, you and I got a good idea where this fight is headed.

President Obama and Senator Reid must be literally beside themselves with glee.

Toomey and Manchin's new scheme is FAR WORSE than even the Feinstein Assault Weapons ban . . .

Provisions of the legislation FORCE new “background checks” (GUN REGISTRATION) on virtually all firearms transfers -- while supposedly exempting transfers between family members and some others.

Of course, the bill includes a laughable provision saying the information can’t be used to create a registry gun-grabbers can point to in order to try and fool gun owners -- but it’s full of holes.

The only way to enforce this new law is if a gun registry is being built.

Not only that, but even as I write you, the ATF is busy compiling a massive database on American gun owners.

Of course, the bill is much, much worse.

There are so many more problems with this legislation.

But now that President Obama and Majority Leader Harry Reid believe they have their token “pro-gun” Republican to go with their anti-gun Senate ringleader Joe Manchin.

So nothing will stop their “bipartisan” gun control scheme.

Matthew, the truth is Senator Toomey is anything but pro-gun. Instead, he’s proven to be nothing less than a traitor to our Second Amendment.

The only good news is, you and I can ensure this scheme never sees the light of day if you and I can just convince 41 Senators to filibuster Harry Reid’s motion to proceed to a floor debate on gun control.

This is our best shot at victory.

Sadly, the NRA continues to keep silent at this most important time.

My hope is they’ll spring into action.

But regardless, you and must stand up and FIGHT.

Please call your Senators at once.

Sen. Mary Landrieu: (202) 224-5824

Sen. David Vitter: (202) 224-4623

Time is running out so it’s absolutely vital you act IMMEDIATELY.

For Freedom,

Dudley Brown
Executive Vice President

P.S. If Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is able to break Senator Rand Paul’s filibuster tomorrow, all bets are off.

I am a little confused on this one.

I listened to NPR on the way home, and my understanding is that this legislation would cause gun dealers at gun shows to do a back ground check on all sales, and would also require the same for all gun sales on the internet.

Currently if you go to a gun show and purchase a new or used gun, they do a back ground check.

Any time I have purchased firearms online via gunbroker or AR15 site, the seller always had to ship it through an FFL, and I had to pick it up through my FFL, thus making me do a background check.

In reality, I do not see any change.

My fear is them declaring that every gun sale, or gift has to be done with a back ground check. Here is the problem if they go that route. If I decided to give a rifle to my brother, and if for some reason the police asked him where he got the firearm, he could just claim that it was given to him prior to the new law going into effect. Folks would then just give or sell guns privately, do no paperwork, and claim that they did it prior to the new law. This would then spur the libs to declare a need to do a 100% registration of all firearms, that way the feds could know when you sold or gave one away.

Study gun grabs in other nations, and you will discover that prior to confiscation, they had a registration.

It is not the federal governments business what we the American citizens own, and you will not find gun registration in the Bill of Rights, or in the writings of our founding fathers.

They're just mudding the waters Ranger. When it clears, there's gonna be 100% gun registration. Tomorrow would stop it before it gets to the floor of the senate, which would give us a better shot than if it's fully introduced. It's gonna be like obamacare, we won't hear about it till it's done.

Bad news......now the debate and "compromise" starts.

"Sixteen Republicans joined with 50 Democrats and two independents to let the bill proceed, while 29 Republicans and two Democrats voted to block it."

I would give anything to be able to stand in there and speak.

I have not seen one politician nail the facts to the wall. There is a whole lot that needs to be said, that the dems do not want to hear.

Not one murder in America last year can be attributed to an NRA member. Why is it that the dems and the MSM try to vilify the NRA, when they are just a civil rights organization that fight for a civil right?

Of all murders in America last year, less than 4% were done with a rifle being the weapon of choice. Why do Feinstein and Obama want my rifle then? More people were killed with knives than with rifles.

In cities like Chicago and LA, as high as 70% of murders are gang related. Take note that the MSM, Obama, Feinstein... do not utter a peep about Bloods, Cripps, MS13, Latin Kings, Vice Lords, ... Why do democrats refuse to talk about those that do the crimes? Could it be that these folks vote democrat?

While NRA members are not doing the murders, we can show that those who do commit murders are intrinsically tied to democrat hand out programs. Those on welfare, food stamps, public housing are doing most of the killing. We have politicians arguing about letting 11 million non legal immigrants stay here to work, but not a peep about putting those on hand out programs to work. Welfare breeds crime, and more people on the system. Systematically taking them off the system will lower taxes and murder. Those that are on the system vote Democrat. Dems are not looking to lower crime, because it would take away from their vote.

Last year, black Americans made up 12.5% of our total population and did 1/2 of all murders in America. Of all those killed in America last year, 1/2 were black. If we could lower black murder rates to the same as white rates, we would lower the national murder per capita rate by almost 40%, we would have a lower murder rate than Luxemburg (they have no guns), and we would save countless black lives. I want to save black lives, but by the fact that democrats refuse to talk about these statistics, makes me believe that they do not hold black lives to be precious.

America owns more guns per 100 people than any nation in the world. In America, we have 88 guns per 100 folks. There are 27 nations though that have higher murder rates than us. Honduras has only 6.6 guns per 100 people, but they have the highest murder per capita rates in the world.
Fewer guns do not mean lower murder rates.

Democrats want to use sensationalism to take away our constitutional rights. They are not looking to lower the murder per capita rates, and thus the reason why you never hear democrats even mention "murder per capita".

Surprising to see members from some of those states, especially the southern states like Mississippi, Georgia, S.C., and Tennessee.

I received this email from my senator today, I had not contacted him since earlier this year...

April 16, 2013

Dear Mr. Converse,

If you share my commitment to protecting our fundamental constitutional rights secured by the Second Amendment, you don’t want to miss this update on the latest developments in Washington.
I believe this Administration displays contempt for gun owners and continues to exploit the shocking tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT. Although the President says he supports the rights of hunters, it seems to be lost on him that the Second Amendment is not about hunting. It is principally about self-defense, the defense of one’s family, and the defense of one’s property (e.g., a home, farm, or business). Also, the President may not understand that gun control laws always impact law abiding citizens more than criminals.
The President proposed 23 “executive actions” to be taken with or without congressional approval. Only one makes sense. The thirteenth item said, “Maximize enforcement efforts to prevent gun violence and prosecute gun crime.” But the President and Attorney General have not made gun law enforcement a priority. In fact, the enforcement of existing federal gun laws (measured by prosecutions) is down 30% under President Obama.
Let us not forget the responsibilities of individuals, families, churches, communities, and states. We can discuss school safety precautions and measures. We can discuss the possibility that the graphic and depraved violence in Hollywood movies and video games poses a risk and does harm. We can discuss the coarsening of our societal fabric such that the culture of life has been corrupted and supplanted by a culture of death. We should certainly discuss what might be done to increase the likelihood that those individuals most “at risk” for the type of profound mental breakdowns that lead to mass shootings of unarmed citizens get the best psychiatric care available. The sad but inescapable truth is some people in this country are evil, some are mentally ill, and some are both: to assume the federal government can change these facts by any amount of legislation is arrogance and folly.

We must remain vigilant, because the U.S. House of Representatives might be the only thing preventing the President from pushing through his radical gun control proposals. Last week, 68 Senators (alas, 16 Republicans joined 52 Democrats) voted to move forward with debate and potential passage of Senator Reid’s gun control legislation. I will vigorously oppose any effort to bring any new gun control bill to the floor of the House.
If you wish to receive weekly updates from me on this and other issues, please take a moment to click here and sign up for my e-newsletter.

Sincerely,

Tim Huelskamp
Member of Congress

A couple weeks ago our police chief was touting that gun crimes and murders were down by almost 30% from last year. Last year we had 70 degree days in march, this year we've had a longer winter but the first warm day this year, about a week after the crime stats were released there was 5 murders and multiple other shootings. cold weather is like bug spray for the "locals"

the conclusion is off target there is a larger population of african americans therefore there is a higher number of homicides.
