Its hard to believe that in that election year women could not serve on juries and there were significant impediments to African Americans voting at all. It was not until the next election in 1964 when LBJ was elected by a landslide that the African American block vote became a significant factor to consider by all politicians. It was after that point when even a few yellow dog Democrats began having identity crises and traditionally blue states began turning red.
