If adopted, it will require every citizen to vote or suffer penalty. Brilliant!! Several democratic countries have this requirement and it works nicely. It will counter the effects of the campaign finance law in effect now which permits unlimited donations to PACs. If one collects any form of public assistance it will be lowered or terminated is he does not vote, If this goes through we may never see another Republican in congress or the Prsidency. Our government will be less polarized. I don't think it will ever come to be, but it will be used as leverage to change the way we finance campaignes. |

He should also propose a bill to require an ID to vote. The most important thing we do is vote and it's the only thing in this country you don't need an ID for. |

Dean throw out the whole republican/democratic party thing. Does it bother you that people in general vote and are uneducated on what they're voting for? Also is one educated vote better than 2 uneducated votes? |

If odumbo proposes it, it can't be a good thing for the people that work and pay taxes. Just another way for the crooked democrat politicians to get a vote. How much of our taxpayer money will be used to bus these miscreants to the polls, feed them while they are there, give them a phone voucher for voting as well as another check in the welfare system? Government cheese, the staple of the democrat party. How about this, you don't vote unless you work and pay taxes?? If you get government cheese you don't vote. I bet this isn't in odumbo's latest scheme to buy votes. |

IF only employed people had the vote what would be next? Only land owners or those who make over say $15,000.00 a year? The welfare system does need some help, it shouldn’t be a cradle to grave expectation – it should be temporary assistance to those who need it. But taking away the vote from someone who is between jobs and needs a little help to get by is just ridiculous. |

As someone who was laid off and getting some government assistance last year (AFTER USING UP ALL MY PERSONAL SAVINGS AND WORKING THREE CASH JOBS still not making ends meet), I would not be in disagreement with the concept of - - you don't put anything into the system, you can't choose the system. After being in the system, and working with the system I could easily see how someone would be enticed to stay as long as possible. Why on earth would you purposefully vote yourself out of a paycheck? The largest block of them will do nothing more than vote for whoever is going to give them the most stuff. |

This idea has merits. Who can possibly be against more citizens participating in the democratic process. Its like your civic duty to do it just like registering with the selective service once you reach the age of 18, which is mandatory. Can't wait until we get online voting, too, then the infirm, transportation challenged individuals will be able to exercise their voting rights so much easier. There may never be another Republican elected ever again. |

This is one of the worst ideas I have heard in a long time, and the liberals come up with plenty of them. There should be a basic competency test before you are allowed to vote. It would eliminate people that are voting and have absolutely no idea what they are voting for or against but have been driven to the polls by some liberal "community activist" group. |
