A proposal for next year has been brought up to prohibit them from use after 2pm on Pass A Loutre WMA from Sept to January. Any outboard can be used. Arbitrary and capricious.....

And the SWBA is still not off the ground .....

They are probing and we can't give an inch.

As big as a shit disturber as you can be dean I wish people would get behind you and make the shallow water association happen. This shit going on in the home of mud motor is only going to spread across the rest of the south once it's successful there. We need a voice to protect our $$$ investments if anything. What's gonna happen when these motors are illegal and worth $0.00 ?

I don't see this happening with the amount of people that camp out down there that use MM's. That pretty much eliminates a lot of hunters which should cause a big fuss.

Technically Surface drives are an "outboard motor". Bud boats are inboard units with under hull propellers.

Modification of allowable weapons to be carried for protection purposes on WMAs, which will expand allowances on such weapons to be more consistent with changes to Title 56 last year;

Expansion on allowance for personal water craft on WMAs, to allow such on all WMAs rather than on a select few during a specified time of year;

If you think this will never happen then you are sadly mistaken. I do not hunt there and have never been but this is another battle we need to fight.

The SCDNR did the same thing to airboats in the Santee Swamp many years ago. They defined the time of year, which was duck season, and the area prohibited.
Soon they will outlaw hunting. They will guise it with some environmental regulation to protect some obscure plant life or spotted owl.
Just wait, it's coming.

K, need to get opposition going ASAP. First, written public comment to be drafted and submitted by the SWBA and MMT membership appearances in large numbers at public forums. Immediate tasks:

1. Virtual meeting with contributors to finalize creation of SWBA
2. Solicit funding from MMT and manufactures to fund directors' insurance.
3. Creation of Website/Facebook
4. Draft comments to LaWF opposing 2 pm ban.

I will contact Gator Tail, Mud Buddy, Prodrive, Go Devil, Prodigy Boats. and custom boat builders to solicit initial funding. If you think of others who may want to contribute, please forward information to me. Someone assume responsibility for 1 and 3. I will contact LaWF and find out their reasons for the ban and report here.

I have the reason dean. Kids riding all day long on the management areas with voodoo exhaust scaring them off. The ducks stay well offshore and only come in to feed at night. In theory it will give the ducks some quiet time and they may stay in longer. Instead of being gone at daylight.

And there is no restriction on fishing boats which also run them up constantly. Part of the responsibility of the SWBA will be education to cut all the bullshit out that gives us owners a bad name.

I took a couple of guys that drove down from IL to the St Bernard marshes last weekend. I took them trout fishing in my rig since they were biting along with some duck hunting. This is the only boat I own and I do everything with it. I will defend my rights to use my boat to fish, bowfish and hunt anytime I please and not be singled out because I use a MM.

I have already put money to get this off the ground. What you are saying would be a good idea once/if we get the manufactures on board. As for now, it's grass roots and we have to start somewhere. The problem is putting together a meeting to get us off the ground.

It seems that the conventional wisdom in this situation is to limit or eliminate any adverse legislation directed at surface drive boats. It would be difficult to compose an objective by polling the entire membership of the organization. There would be too many different personal objectives. I would think that a meeting with a few of the manufacturers would net a significant amount of money for the cause. In order to convince the manufacturers that you are a legitimate force acting against adverse legislation with respect to surface drives, you need to have a big gun lobbyist on retainer.
It's not hard to accomplish with a lobbyist on the payroll.

Well it sounds like you should be included on the virtual meeting. If we go to the MM manufactures with an official logo, mission statement, a brochure, incorporation proof, a sizable membership of individuals then they may take this organization seriously and back us.

Let's be real....., the one issue we have to work around is Dean. Numerous people will not join because of their hatred towards him. He has to stop his abrasive and divisive personality.
