Catahoula primary, located on the edge of the Atchfalaya Basin is a failing school comprised of 99% white students,many of the students of which legally belong in a neighboring, primarily African American school district. The oversight has been intentional. Recently, the Federal judge ordered the School Board produce a plan to desegregate the school. The experts for the the justice department concluded that closing the school would immediately desegregate the system and the Federal judge was inclined to rule that but gave the school board a chance to come up with an acceptable, voluntary plan. After several executive meetings (private), the school board refused and declared it would litigate the case, then changed its mind after other meetings and cooler heads prevailed. I attended one of those meetings where in attendance were many of the Catahoula residents. I spoke to many of them. Not surprisingly, the comments were generally like this: "ain't no "N-words" gonna come to Catahoula". To those with whom I spoke, I told them I was a Cajun from Cecilia and I put on my biggest Cajun accent when talking to them, so they were disarmed and felt free to say what they really meant. If the school were some kind of exceptionally performing one, then I might understand the reluctance to close it instead of busing students in and out, but it's a failing school and its better for the students to attend a better performing school. I thought we were done with this kind of Jim Crow stuff years ago. |

So Dean what was your role where you there as a snake in the grass or where you there for the betterment of the school. Do they really think that the school will perform better after desegregation or some politician wanted to show how big his power is vs how small his dick is |
