Took my son and a good friends son out on the lake to Kings Bar this morning. We set up in a small pond and they were covered up in birds all morning.They shot 12 and we found 11. Not only was it their first ducks, but their first limits. All bird were committed to the decoys and only one was shot on the water. My 8 year old on the left was surprisingly deadly with his .410 pump. I made him start one shell at a time, then progressed to 2 shells (he shot @35 rounds to get his 6 birds). I let my friends 13 year old son shoot my O/U 20ga. That young man was doing some shooting (@55 rounds to get his 6 birds). I couldn't believe how well those two shot. I was just hoping my boy would be able to swat a couple on the water, but he got all of his flying. On his second shot he dropped a ringer and he replied "that sure was a lucky shot". After his 6th bird I told him luck had nothing to do with it, especially since he stoned 4 of them. It was the best day of the season for me. My buddy said (after watching how much fun his boy was having) "Looks like I'll be getting back into duck hunting next season". |
