Post Tcounty budget Boat Build
I bought this boat off of Craigs List about 3 months ago. Been working on off and on since then. It is a 1648 Bass Tracker. So far I've pulled everything out of it, console, floatation, everything. I've cut new floors and deck material out of 1/8 alluminum sheet, haven't installed yrt , but hopefuly in the next few weeks. I put Steel Flex on today.

I put 1x1 square tubbing for deck braces. Originaly everything (floor and decks) was plywood.

I put 1 1/2 x1 1/2 square tubbing in the floor, as bracing. 1 run each side and all the way across back 1/3 of the boat.

I think the transome will be strong enough, about the heavest braced transom I've seen from a non mud boat.

Haven't decided yet. I've got a 40 Yamaha, I'd like 23 Short tail, Maybe a GD or MB. This is just a temporary boat untill the wife finishes her masters, 1 more semester  , then I'm buying a brand new rig.

My first attempt at Steel Flex. Pretty much straight forward. Mix up about a quart at a time. Just poor it on and spread it around. I also had them send me a quart of their filler. About like Bondo. Actualy saw some at AutoZone last night, Bondo made for aluminum.

1 quart gave this much coverage

Finished the Steel Flex. I used the whole gallon. Places I thought would need the most protection are close to 3/16 thick.

One tip on this stuff ,don't over roll it around. I had it looking slick and decided to roll it agian and it put a texture to it. Luckily I had another qt to mix up. I was trying to paint it more or less and you just need to push it around. Has to set for 48 hours then I plan to self etch prime then paint base color.

All of the steelflex jobs I've seen on here had a little orangepeel texture to it, don't sweat it dude. ;)

looks like it is coming along really good. sometimes i wish i had an older boat as a project just to play around with. i like to tinker on things like that and i find it enjoyable. keep us updated.

I'm enjoying the hell out of this. Even after I get the rig I want, I plant to keep looking for deals on Craigs list for fixer upers to sell. Find 14-16' jons and buy used LTs to throw on there.
