Gator Tail console steering
Anyone know what all would be needed to convert a Gator Tail tiller steering to a console steering?
What needs to be done to the motor? What kind of controls and cables? What kind of steering? And am I missing anything else other than extending the wiring?

Re: Gator Tail console steering
I am in the process right now, almost got eveything figured out. UFlex is one of the only ones that sell the side mount cylinder. You could use a splashwell mount but gator tail runs the side mount. You could get the hoses, helm pump, cylinder, and oil for 750 plus s&h. The tie bar that hooks to the cyclinder is mounted to the same block that moves up and down when you trim your motor. You need to buy the braket from gator tail or make one. I am in the process of machining mine right now. Move you controls for reverse, trim ect to the console. I think thats about it but I am sure I will run into something else along the way. I made my console so I am not sure how much that would cost. Here are some pics of the console. Hopefully it will all be together in a couple of weeks. Had to put a stop to it because I am in the process of buying a house.

Re: Gator Tail console steering
Thanks Blaze! I have been wanting a console for a long time but didn't want to spend the money. I am about to get Aucoin to do a little work on my boat that will require purging the double bottom so I figure if I am ever gonna get it done now would be the time. My major hold up was the cost, but after looking into it, it appears that I may be able to get it done alot cheaper if I do the work myself.
Has anyone rigged it on there own yet? It looks easy enough, but I could be missing something. I have rigged teleflex steering before, but never even looked close at a hydraulic system.

Re: Gator Tail console steering
Hydraulic is the only way I will go. I know that I will loose some performance, but the only time that I am really in the thick stuff is at events like mudfest. The rest of the time I have enough water that a good outboard with a tunnel would ultimatly do the trick, I just like having the mud motor since they are built for those situations. Fishing frogging and a little duck hunting is my main use, but the steering would be nice on the long runs that I frequently make.

Think tyou need some type of pedal for your reverse.

Re: Gator Tail console steering
Where the red circle is thats the bracket you need to convert your motor to steering I think. If you trim your motor all the way down you will see a block that goes up and down when you trim your motor. They have a bolt that runs through it with a space in the middle you put the bracket(the one thats circles red) in the middle and hook your tie rod that hooks to the cylinder to it.

Re: Gator Tail console steering
I left a message for Kyle this evening, just figured I would start a thread on this topic cause it hasn't been discussed on the new MMT yet.
Thanks for the info Blaze. I need to get the hollow pipe that is in that picture also. Mine is a solid piece.
