 Good pocket knife
There is always gonna be a compromise between holding an edge and easy to sharpen. If it is easy to sharpen it won't hold an edge, if it holds an edge it will be hard to sharpen. This is all due to hardness. You need to find a happy medium. Different knives from the same manufacturer will not be the same due to the type of steel used to make the blade. I have two Kershaws and they are different. One is easier to sharpen and the other holds a better edge.

 Re: Good pocket knife
I carry a Buck Tempest everywhere I go. Had it for at least 3 years now and I love it. Holds a sharp edge and keeps it pretty well. I use a stone to sharpen it and I haven't had a problem putting a sharp edge back on it. It is assisted opening but works really well. I did clean out the spring mechanism last year as it began to stick but tear down and reassembly was really easy. If I had to replace this one I would buy another Tempest. Plus I think the cherry looks nice.

 Re: Good pocket knife
After hog hunting all my life and cleaning one of the toughest critters out there on a knife I can tell you Coldsteel, Benchmark and Kershaw are what holds up (In that order). Coldsteel being the hardest and most $ and Kershaw the easiest to sharpen and least $. My buddy carrys Coldsteel and I the Kershaw and we're always comparing them. They all hold up in saltwater, just depends on what model you get. They all have a wide range of pricing as well, of course the more you pay the better.
No offense to the ones that like them but a Gerber is the worst thing i have ever had. Way too soft. You can get that sob razor sharp and not use it for a week and it'll get dull by itself.

 Re: Good pocket knife
Most of the quality knife brands will hold up just fine if you use it like it was intended to be used. That bein said I have owned most of dem and have broken dem. I use a knife as a tool to do whatever job needs doin. I beat on dem with hammers, channel locks, amd wrenches. I pry anything day needs pryin with dem. I use it to kill and clean all kinds of critters, and to spread my blue plate mayo on a sandwich or cut an onion. The only knife I have yet break is the kabar I bought 10 years ago.

 Re: Good pocket knife
Please tell me that handle is not made of plastic. Sorry but a knife should not look like it's made by Matel.

 Re: Good pocket knife
It still feels really cheap. I like a knife to have some weight to it.

 Re: Good pocket knife
Here's mine. It aint top of the line, but at ~$30, it's been a damn good knife for about a year now. Easy enough to sharpen, & holds an edge really well. Also is assisted open.

I got the one Camo has but no serration. My assist spring broke about a year ago and i got a screw missing on my clip. Time for me a new knife.

 Re: Good pocket knife
I love the kershaws with the assisted opening. I have several of them. I have found them to be very durable. The one riding in the boat's toolbox has been there for two seasons, used frequently. Not a spot of rust on it. I will admit I have had to tighten the screws on the clip on them from time to time. Never had it get so bad that one fell out though.
The first one I bought (probably 7 or 8 years ago) got lost at a friend's farm over the summer. The next spring, I found it just barely sticking out of the dirt by the firepit. Took it home, cleaned it up and gave it some oil. Works like new to this day.
They make them in some cool patterns too. I bought a pink one for the girlfriend. I had to so she would stop stealing mine!
