one of my buddies was looking at getting a surface drive to run back and forth to his duck blind from his property when the lake is low that he lives on.....
without knowing any thing about them, he got in contact with a company thru an ad in a magazine. They gave him the full pitch and he was just about to pull the trigger when i found out about it and asked him what kind of motor it had etc and if it had reverse.

Well after he contacted them back, they stated that they would have a reverse in the near future. So he began looking elsewhere. Then another person called them back and started telling them that one companies reverse won't even back you away from the dock if you are holding on to it and the other has to have an extra hydrualic tank and 5 gallons of fluid and on and on and on and that he really didnt need a reverse........and it was a waste of money.......

i asked him how he was going to back his boat out of his floating duck blind

now if you put the first conversation of (they will have reverse in the near future) and the second conversation of ( you really do not need reverse) just makes me ponder

I can relate about being told the same thing about parts. I was told parts would work, then another person at the same company would tell you that the same part wouldn't work.

Bad thing is so many people get that kind of info daily from pricks like that !! You can not replace reverse with any mod or what ever they think can !! It's priceless!!

I was looking at an excel with a mudbuddy on it a few weeks ago at an outdoor festival and the dealer came up to me and asked what I thought about it. I said it was nice, but i wanted a motor with reverse. He then started talking trash about the other 2 motors i had mentioned. He was like, "I never use reverse and where i go I don't need to worry about reverse, because he was only worried about going forward to the ducks." Then I asked him how he was going to get home and then he shut his mouth and walked away. What a freaking goober!

Not trying to start anything because I've been stuck out there bad we all know that. But on this day & in this area the reverse was needed! Otherwise you were hanging out in the water not on the flat.

Unfortunately, many people either don't know how to research a purchase, or don't have time to research a purchase, so they are stuck taking the advice of salespeople.

During my purchasing process, I was lucky to find this forum first. This led me to Gatortrax, Mudbuddy, Prodrive, Gatortail, and Phowler. I contacted each one directly and was very pleased with how honest and forthcoming each was. Each told me what their rigs/motors would and would not do. None bashed the other. All were patient and fielded multiple, sometimes dumb, questions. It is a shame that some of their sales representation is not as conscientious.

It's funny. I used to work at a dealership that sold Skeeter boats. All I heard was how awesome Skeeter was (which they are nice) and how much brands like Champion and Ranger sucked, blah, blah, blah. Then, one of the salesman ended up going to work for a dealership that sold Ranger. Funny how he could change his mind and bash skeeter so much. I had customers that laughed about it and just bought boats from who they liked.

brother cant sell a motor he doesnt have. if you go to any dealer and ask about a brand they dont sell they are going to talk them down. how else are they going to sell there product.

Jimmy W I am going to disagree with you in regards to your above statement. I have personally ran all four brands in hunting and fishing situations. All that is claimed may or may not be the full truth.
