Post Saltwater
I run a GD LT 23hp with a 1648 tracker. My question is what affect will the salty air and saltwater have on my boat if I take it hunting on the coast? I plan on hosing it down, corrosion Xing and WD40ing the heck out of it. Is there anything else I should do? What kind of rusting precautions do you take before and after a trip to the coast/saltwater.

With all that said, If you do run salt water and do not do maintanance on it afterwards then you will end up with one big pile of rusty shit! that probably won't run! I've seen a lot of out of towners run their rigs during opening season then throw it straigth into a boat shed. They come back for the second slpit and it literaly looks like a 10 yr old motor turning to dust!

used motor oil mixed with wd 40 in a spray bottle. 25% oil to 75% wd 40 ratio. Buy the wd by the gallon. Will last a long time.

Is there anywhere on the engine you are not supposed to spray anti-corrosion spray??

A good hose down and some WD40 works well. Like BB said, if you ignore it over time your going to have a mess.

Corrosion-X is good on everything. Electrical, metal, u name it. U can also get the HD Corrosion-X. It goes on as a thick film that doesn't dry. It is the ultimate in protection, u just have to use a steam cleaner r alcohol to remove it. Did I say it never gets hard. I spray my big engines down with it on my offshore boat.

Give it a good rinse with fresh water and spray the entire engine.

I've been using Corrosion X in the red can for years. Lately I've found that it leaves a residue that can collect some dirt over time, especially when I spray it on my Mikuni carb . Anyone else seen this?
