Post Gatortail on a Gatortrax??
I'm looking at putting a 35GTR on my 18x50 Gatortrax w/huntdeck. Just wanting to get some opinions on it. Would I have to have an extension handle on it? Would it be enough power? My 35MB will only get m 20-21 mph. That ain't cutting it. Wanting some more power and speed. I really think the reverse would be very handy for my use as well. If I ordered one, would it be delivered ready to put on and go? How would it be shipped? Any help is greatly apprciated.

no you wont need an extension, my huntdeck is the same length as the gatortrax and i dont have any problems running my motor. if your only getting that speed out of a stock 35 mb what makes you think a stock 35 gtr is gonna be any faster? you have to take some of the speeds some of these fools post with a grain of salt. if you want more speed and power replacing a stock motor with another stock motor isnt gonna do much and you need to start looking into some mods for the motor. as far as shipping i would assume you have to do a little bit of installation of maybe the handle and some minor parts, not sure to because i picked mine up from the factory, i know a mb you have to assemble the handle but the gtr handle will turn straight up so it may be just a simple put it on the boat hook the battery and fuel lines up and good to go. as far as the reverse, it is very handy...makes getting out of some sticky situations alot easier being you can dig a hole then back up and hit it and i can usually get up on step to get out.

I know what you are saying about swapping a stock for a stock. I really just don't think that I am getting full effort out of my MB. I've had it worked on, and actually had new carb just put on it couple of months ago. It does idle better than it did when I first bought it and actually runs better. According to sound. Its just when its in water and under strain, it REALLY bogs it down. Backfires, spits, sputters, and only revs out at 3600 rpms in water. Plus I'm really wanting reverse. I wanna get me a NEW motor and start from there. Probably end up modding it later, but just wanna get a NEW base to start with.

1) Is your boat a tall or short transom? I have sold a couple 1750 huntdeck Gator Trax with Gator Tail motors and neither of them needed a handle extension, but both were tall transom models and I can see where picking the motor up out of the water could be a problem with a short transom.

2) On your current motor, has anyone done a leak down test? From your description, sure sounds like you are getting some blow by on one (or more) of the stock valves.

3) On the 50" Gator Trax, they run much better with as much weight in the rear of the boat as possible. Move all batteries, and the gas tank to the rear, and have your passenger sit as close to you as possible.

No, I haven't had a leak down test done. Never heard of that. :) But makes sense I guess. I'm really hoping that I can get thru this season and I will probably be selling it and getting a GTR35. Thats what I'm planning on doing anyways. Thanks for the help and info. If I order one, will it be delivered ready to put on and run? How exactly would it be shipped? Can I put dual exhausts on a GTR35? I really like that look and sound.
