Gator Trax w/ Outboard Jet - Cali
First off I live in California (yes, there are some people who still hunt & fish in Cali ). I sold my 1848 War Eagle a couple years back and now I'm getting the itch to get back on the river! I really like the Gator Trax hunt deck, but I'm looking to put an Outboard Jet on one. Anyone here have any input/knowledge about that setup? I really prefer the layout of the Gator Trax / Brother Breaux custom boats you boys have in the South over most of the common river sleds up my way.

Have you ran a jet before? No reason there would be an issue with that setup. Jets are the best for hard bottom rocky rivers, just no fun on duck lakes with weeds and stuff to clog the intake. How big of a jet are you gonna run? There is about a 30% power loss with a jet vs. prop. I wouldn't run less than a 60/40 on that hull.

Definetly get a jet a guy up here built a rig its badddd! he got a 1654 I believe with a tunnel, sponsons and a 60/40 yamaha on it he put up a video of it itll run in about 2 inches on a plane. Do some mod to the suction grate and something to do with a welding rod and you wont have to worry about small amounts of grass.

Re: Gator Trax w/ Outboard Jet - Cali
i had a 20x70 gator trax with hunt deck and tunnel. yamaha 150 hp. jet . she ran pretty good but low in the water with the round chine. she was was just too big for what i needed. keep in mind measurement of boat length on gator trax does not include hunt deck. we run alot of jets here on the outer banks of n.c. with it being mostly sandy shoals and oyster beds and they do well if u can keep the intakes free of debris. the more i ran the boat the more i figured it wasnt filling my needs so i sold it to a friend. idling along she handled like a leaf in the wind. after much deliberation i decided to build another and have brother do it. good luck with build and think long and hard about what u want in a boat.

hey Greg, The upper Sac and Feather rivers
I haven't run a jet outboard before, I know a prop is faster. But I want to not have to worry about flying through areas and worrying about it.
Thanks for the info about your GT with a jet, Swampfox.

I live down in the Los Angeles area. If you're looking for a used GT hull, call Clint at Mudbuddy. I know that they had 1 or 2 MB edition hulls there that were in excellent condition and were priced to move. I know a guy in Sacramento that sells PD but he stocks nothing and you have to order what you want. I run an 18ft Excel w/ a 36 PD.
