Wha's better for shallow water with lots of grass/cattails?
Roughly 1' of water over top seemingly endless muck and choked out with tall grass, phragmites, cattails, etc.
What would be better suited for this type of condition, a surface drive motor or a longtail on a 14' boat?

Depending on the width, you may want to look into the 18hp copperhead.

Either one would get you by. Really depends on boat size, how much of a load you'll plan on hauling, and how long your runs are. Budget may also be a factor.

Re: Wha's better for shallow water with lots of grass/cattai
Where I run, we seem to have an endless supply of grass, cattails, and shallow water with no mud. I have very good luck with the GTR. It was a big improvement over the longtail I had.
Green cattails are a pain because they'll get wrapped around the prop if you're trying to go slow. Otherwise the surface drive is my recommendation.

On a 14' boat, I would go with the smaller and much lighter 18hp Copperhead.
