 Pro drive help, strange noise
Just noticed my pd making a very concerning noise when I engage the clutch, seems to go away when I rev up. I can't seem to post the video I took, if you pm me your number I can send it too you. Or just text me and I'll send it, I don't mind posting my number. 7135044621

Re: Pro drive help, strange noise
The gears have a little lash in them and they do make a little racket at idle. You sure it's something new?
Is it coming from the LU or the clutch area?

Just below the clutch. Above the lower unit. The shaft area, not sure if its new or not, ive never noticed it.

Only thing in that area is the spline adapter. I guess the allen head screws that hold it on could be loose? Or maybe you stripped it somehow?
If you are certain that it is below the clutch and above the knuckle, I'd lift it off as soon as possible and have a look...

It will probably be really hard to tell where the noise is coming from in a video. We're gonna have to take your word on it.

Re: Pro drive help, strange noise
I got your video, but it's hard to tell where it's coming from. There is an upper bearing in the top of the LU. I wouldn't think that would be it, but it's possible. Only other thing in between the gears and the clutch is the spline adapter. I can't think of anything else man.
You got an engine hoist? I'd lift the powerhead off and try to isolate it.

Re: Pro drive help, strange noise
I had a noise start in mine, sort of a high pitched sound when I engaged the clutch. Ended up being the bearing in the LU just above the gears. Only way to be sure is to pull it apart. There's a seal just above the gears that'll sometimes leak a little water, which is the cause of the problem.

Re: Pro drive help, strange noise
Well, interesting story, the previous owner(hysrilla gorilla) broke a few bolts that holds the lower unit on and had it repaired at h&w, so I would assume all that's new. I drained the lower unit oil, no metal, it was a little milky, but just barely, could have been from the cheap ass Teflon I used.
