how do yall trailer your surface drives??
I just upgraded to a 2100 copperhead and im trying to figure out the best way to strap the motor down when the boat is on the trailer and im going down the road. I have a strap wrapped around the handle pulling the motor down into the boat and its tied on the trailer. any suggestions and pictures would be great thanks!

Re: how do yall trailer your surface drives??
If you have a welder build you a transom saver that goes in-between the belt housing and your trailer. Then strap it from each handle on your boat to keep pressure on it.
Sorry don't have any pics but a buddy of mine did it to a mud buddy.

Re: how do yall trailer your surface drives??
Minimize bounce of motor = less stress off of transom.

Re: how do yall trailer your surface drives??
they way I have now the bounce is minimal and any movement is more on the pivot point than the transom. so its not that bad. Im coming from a longtail that swiveled 360 and once I strapped it down it didn't move and now this slight bounce makes me nervous. I could rig a transom saver up but I don't really have the time right now. I'd really like to see some pic of how people haul theirs if anyone has any.

Re: how do yall trailer your surface drives??
I should have posed my original comment as more of a question than i did. I agree with what your are saying. I suppose a standard outboard style transom saver does no more or no less than the design you propose.

Re: how do yall trailer your surface drives??
So the OP is talking about a different motor but this got me wondering.
Do you GTR/GTB owners use a transom saver or just the U-bracket for eliminating side to side movement?

Re: how do yall trailer your surface drives??
I just run my trailering bracket and that's all.
Had a mb and never put a strap on it.
But they were on boats that I build not Jon boats.

Re: how do yall trailer your surface drives??
I have an 18 HP copperhead. I usually run a strap through the little hole in the diagonal support bar that has the copperhead logo cut in it. When I picked it up from Illowa Marine, they had a wood block in between the belt housing and the transom, but i've already lost several of them on the road. So now I don't bother. The strap keeps it from bouncing and turning but a big bump will still bounce it a bit. I am still kind of looking for a better way. I don't think the motor is heavy enough to crack the transom. I guess if it does, I have a lifetime warranty on the boat from Illowa. Considering I am strapping it down their way, I think they would fix it.

Re: how do yall trailer your surface drives??
With my Copperhead I just turn the handle to the left side of the boat and run a bungee cord from right in front of the prop to the grab handle on the right side of the transom. It stays tight and doesn't bounce an inch down the road.

Re: how do yall trailer your surface drives??
trimmed all the way up and run a strap around the tail to the ass of the boat on both sides.

I'm sure all those horizontal mud motor makers will just copy Gatortail's way of doing things. They have copied just about everything so far!!;)

The old integral MB travel lock on the hypers was a good design.
