Post David smith hunting
Would not recommend him to anyone. I booked a 2 day 3 hunts duck/goose for 9 people with this clown. On the phone he talked about hunting dry fields and flooded fields and the differences between the two, after arriving to find out he only has one blind in a flooded field. The breakfast he provides is biscuits and microwave sausage patties. The pit blinds are nice and roomy but when you have 11 heads sticking out of a pit blind that is located in the dead middle of the decoy spread it's hard not to spotted by the birds. The decoy spread is another joke. He claims to have 2000 decoys. Looking out the blind, on the right you have about 200 drake mallards left side is 200 drake pintail with full body geese on the outside. Behind you is an exact mirror image of the front with goose decoys on the levee surrounding the blind in the middle, not a single hen in the entire spread. Not to mention every decoy is facing the same direction and no more than 10" apart, many of them were touching. There was no gaps or landing areas so if by some miracle they decided to commit it would have to be outside the decoys 60yds out. In 3 hunts we did not have a duck or goose commit or drop for this spread. It was the most unnatural and far fetched thing spread I've ever seen and would not change anything when it wasn't working. We had to sky blast everything just to have an opportunity at killing, but with 11 people shooting at everything we did manage to knock a few down. Most of which we had to retrieve our self and chase the cripples because he didn't have a dog. This operation is a joke, the guy is a salesman not a guide. There are many other negatives about this place but hopefully you get the idea and don't book a trip with this clown.

Yall shoulda had some half shell goose decoy hats.

Every goose hunt ive been on was like u described as far as having to sky bust and get lucky to knock one down,
chase cripples too.

Also...every hunt i was on had clear weather like in your pics.

Show me a guide that can make weather and i will book a trip.!!!

The shell hats would've been a good idea. I know the amount of birds and te weather is out of his control but in three hunts not one bird dropped down or committed. I would say conservatively 60% of the flocks flew around the spread never coming anywhere close. How can you expect geese to commit to 1000+ drake mallards and pintail. I don't mind chasing cripples but not while the 2 guides sit on their ass and don't get out the blind. This whole operation is a joke

Funny that name comes up. I knew a David Smith down in South Texas. He used to own an archery shop in Corpus Christi. He did some day leasing down there for deer/hog archery hunts. But, he died in a wreck when he hit a hog in his suburban. Speed, no seat belt and over compensating after sliding off the road were contributors. Obviously not the same guy!

One of the guides was David smith himself. The other one wasn't much of a guide, didn't have calls, didn't get birds, just sat there and shot with us

Only Dave Smith I've ever heard of was the gentleman that carved my decoys.

I'm not defending this guy, but 11 heads shouldn't have been sticking up out of the blind. They should have been down and pulled that fastgrass crap over them. I personally would never use that on my blind but if I showed up to hunt I would at least cover up with what was there. And as far as the decoy spread of all drakes, I have read somewhere that all drake decoys spreads work better for getting attention lol. I'm sure whoever put them out read it too and thought it was a good idea. Sounds pretty stupid to me to put all drakes. If you want a good goose hunt, book with louisiana outfitters or calcasieu charters and be sure to let them know you want to hunt just geese

We wanted more of a duck hunt than goose but figured booking this time of the year would
Give the opportunity for both. The ducks just were not there so we would've gladly done a goose hunt. On the phone he talked like we would have the option of dry or flooded fields but he only has one blind. With no ducks in the area it seems he would've reset for more of a goose hunt but he wouldn't.

I hear you. I have heard a few bad things about that service. If you want to book a duck hunt though, I would recommend a place that hunts in the marsh. Both of the services I recommended would be able to put you on some good goose hunting with a few bonus ducks

If you do a search on La sportsman.com you can find lots of bad post about this guy. I can understand a pissed off client or two because you'll never please everyone but this service has some really bad reports floating around. Whenever someone post a horror story past clients seem to come out the wood work.

Not to mention that we paid $600 per person for 8 people plus 200 for a camera guy that didn't even bring a gun and he still charges us $75 for a 4yr old kid. That must be an expensive biscuit and microwave sausage party he ate.
