Need some help with a stock CARB problem...
Greetings,
I have a GDSD 35 HP engine with 235 hours and keep it tuned up IAW the maintance book.
I cranked it up the other day to go fishing....after sitting up for a month and a half (I used clean fuel) and the motor shut off on me - just 100 yds from the boat landing and would not restart!
Got back home and started looking closely at exactly what could be the problem.
Situation: "Motor will 'turn over' but would not run".
First... it appeared that something was blocking the fuel to the Carb...(doubled checked and couldn't find a thing wrong). Next... I thought it might be a fuel pump issue...(but FP was working)...so next... I thought it best to fully "clean the carb"...but after that was done,- it still wouldn't run. Motor...would turn over, however it would not run.
Could it be???? That the cylinoid- connected to the carb be the culprit???
Could this be blocking the float??
What does this cylinoid do anyway??
Do I need it? Do I need to replace it ...next to see if that is the issue and then if not...look elsewhere?
Hope someone out there might have the answer, or point me in the proper direction to solve this question.
Regards,
Joe
P/S Never had a problem with this motor since I got it in 2006, and it has been most reliable until this happened.

Re: Need some help with a stock CARB problem...
sounds like a solenoid problem. you can either replace it or completely remove it and plug the port.

That solenoid is called the "anti-backfire solenoid. To check it turn your ignition on. When you do this you should hear a "click". If you don't hear a click than this is you problem. As coondik said you can remove it. That's what I would do. Remove it and go to your local hardware store and find a screw to fit the carb hole and be done with it.

Gator-Tail has that solenoid removed and plugged with a bolt. If you need pictures I have carbs littering my storage unit that have been "Geckerfied" so you can see difference but its as easy as removing and putting a bolt in there... still need to get 1 that runs right but I have a PD, GD & a few GTR carbs around that are eventually needing to go back to Gecker.
