 1848 with 90 2 stroke
So I'm looking at putting a 90 tiller on a 1848 prodigy. 21 inch sides. Hunt deck etc. The motor only weighs 260 lbs. has anyone put a motor this size on an 1848 size boat? How did it do?

My nephew has a 18x72 with Yamaha 115hp 2s and it will go 40 plus with 5 people and gear. It slides pretty good in turns also. He puts a bow fishing deck runs 4-5 people does well.

light narrow boat... thing will scream with a 90. Depending on how much you weigh and where you keep the battery and gas, you may have an issue being a little back heavy or getting on plane quick. if you decide to stick with a tiller you may want to get some trim tabs welded on to help getting on plane quicker.

I'm now leaning towards a Suzuki 60. I can get a pretty good deal on them.
I understand the surface area problem but I was thinking the increased length would help get on plane. Anything has to be better than a mud motor

I would think a 40 HP would work, but a 60 HP would to. Ran 16x44 Lowe with a 1985 40 HP Mariner w/ 10x13 prop and it stood up and laid down quickly pushing 36 mph with 2 and not much slower with 4. And it would slide in turns-turn left to go right and look out for that cypress tree.

That 90 will be perfect.
A lot of the new 90s are 365lbs

Sounds like a great combo IMO. I had a modified 40 Mercury on a 1848 and it ran out nice.
