I think the prevailing answer on here will be buy the biggest motor you can afford...
I think to push 3 guys, you will want a bigger motor, but if that is all you can afford, it will push it.
We have a stock 27pd on a 1648 pd boat and with 3 people and gear, I would say we were running around 18-19.....and slow getting on step, but hey it gets us there...
Not sure how heavy your boat is... or what you have in it that might add weight... Do believe it is not a smooth bottom so that will slow you some...
It also depends on how fast you are looking to go.... so personal preference plays into it...
good luck

I probably should have said it won't get on plane... a fat girl eating too many burritos will push your boat...

Lol. Thanx guys. I think I'll hold out for the 35. The boats pretty light but it's a modified v so it will probably plow alot of water. Any idea on where to find a used surface drive in Ontario. They're not very popular up here.

Here is a Mud Buddy 35 in Maryland. It's not in Ontario, but it's the closest one I could find to you. viewtopic.php?f=31&t=8437

I run a 1652 G3 witht he Semi V hull. I put the 35 on it and it still wasnt enough I ended up putting a bunch of mods into it which I love. Last saturday took out 5 people in the boat I would say average weight of about 170# and I got 23mph and it gets up quik
