 Mudbuddy sport V
I have been thinking about getting the sport v, but after searching on it I am having second thoughts. I am wanting some reviews from guys that have drove the sport v and there opinions on them!! I am now looking at the GTR 35! I don't want this to turn into a bash thread but want honest opinion from the people who have experienced the sport v! Going to be puting a lot of money into a motor and just want it to be the right one! Thanks ahead of time guys!

 Re: Mudbuddy sport V
You don't hear many pople bragging and talking about them. That's a sign IMHO
GTR has a massive cult following them . There is a reason. BTW I Love my GTR:grin:

 Re: Mudbuddy sport V
If you want reverse save yourself alot of headaches and get yourself a gtr or prodrive. You probably won't find many reviews on the sport v in here. Good luck.

 Re: Mudbuddy sport V
I think they have discontinued the sport motors.... The h never made it to release and the v, I don't know...seen pictures of broken ones. Never seen one in real life though.... is anybody still on the wait list or was everyone refunded their money? You may want to call mud buddy and find out if it is even available... you may not have the choice of a sv. .....

They still make the sport motors. The stock V has been discontinued. They are available in the 44 and 50. The H is supposedly in production right now.
I've driven a V and I've seen the H in person.

 Re: Mudbuddy sport V
I owned the sport v44. I liked the motor and replaced the failing parts before I had any bad experiences. I sold mine and currently am waiting on a gtr35 with stage 1. The sport v worked fine for where I hunt and run but the fella that bought it has replaced the lower unit twice now. As far as the motor, it ran great.

 Re: Mudbuddy sport V
I been in a V several times. It runs very smooth. The LU is not built to handle punishment. They tend to break easily against a log. They are also extremely heavy on the back of the boat. The reverse system on it is great. My cousin loves it. However, I don't think they are worth the price.

 Re: Mudbuddy sport V
Got one, V5000. Buddy has one, V4400. His dad has one too, V5500. All running good with no problems. On the V5500, the foot had a small hairline crack in it at 4 hours. Dealer fixed it no charge with a newer style. These motors are literally a beast with a load in the boat.

I would consider a crack in the l/u to be a problem, but that's just me.

 Re: Mudbuddy sport V
I just can't see myself ever owning a surface drive that I would have to be scared of logs with. Tomorrow we will be banging motors against logs all day. If I had a sport V I would be worried all damn day long.

 Re: Mudbuddy sport V
I guess the weight was too much for a stock engine? I still have never seen one.... I guess there won't be many around here with the abuse our motors go through whether hitting pipe lines or concrete or stumps that litter our waters....

 Re: Mudbuddy sport V
I just read a post on the mb forum that some h's will be out next month. But with stock motors (35) and one with a carb kit.
I want to see the H in action. In a few years we will know if it is a good design or not another piece of crap.

Has there been anything on hp at the prop with either the h or v? Curios to know how many horses that tranny is sucking up.

 Re: Mudbuddy sport V
I've rode in that Sport V yall saw at the mud bugs mud boats ride. Bitch is fast to say the least. With 4 people, full tank of gas and a lawn mower in it we were running steady 28-29mph...it sucked in shallow water though. (In 7-8" of water with soft bottom) it took a good 5 minutes of barging and working the motor before it plained out.

 Re: Mudbuddy sport V
I'm gonna be honest. I owned a 2003 hyperdrive a loooong time ago and never had an issue with it. Hell it didn't even have a clutch. I truely think that the concept of the MB sport V is ok. Its basically like a tiller outboard with the gear shift and such. The problem lies in the wear and tear that these motors go through. I really don't think that every aspect was truely though out. Alot of people were caight by the new "latest and greatest" machine (me being one of them who placed a deposit a while back). But the lack of customer service and response to paid customers is unacceptable by any means. If they would not have started taking deposits before they were ready, it might have helped, but to many the damage is done

 Re: Mudbuddy sport V
According to MB adjustments have been made to the Sport V's pivot point so that it takes less energy to raise the lower unit which in turns lessens the impact force when something is hit. Thicker cast material and more stringent QA/QC procedures on cast pours have also improved reliability.
MB also states that Sport V's are out selling all other MB motor types so it appears that they are still very popular despite the faulty early release.
