Re: GDSD with F-N-R
A long time ago I was the guy that galvanized Go Devils so I spent some time walking around the shop.
Back then (like pre-surface drive) Coco told me he tried reverse on a short version of a longtail. As I remember it was a smaller engine because the trans he found would not handle the larger engines. He told me the thing was bulletproof but in reverse it wanted to suck the transom under so it was never released.
I also remember he had wheel steering that raised and lowered the longtail by pulling the entire wheel toward you.

Re: GDSD with F-N-R
[quote="Quack N Stackote= The balanced frame is all great and what not for comfortable running but in thicker mud and in any veggies it took all 130lbs of me to keep it from blowing out. Now that I'm driving a back weighted motor it blows my mind why the gd is still balanced like it is. When I ran the gd I had to lock the tiller arm in and pull up as hard as I could to keep it down in those conditions and even then sometimes it wasn't enough to keep it from blowing out. The GTR's and the Mud buddy's are all semi balanced when trimmed up and running but all you gotta do is bump it down a bit and its not blowing out unless you hit something solid or something to think to be running in the first place. I understand the balanced frame concept just don't understand why its still around with reliable trim systems out.

Coco must be hung like a horse for you to sucking his dick so much. nothing is ever going to be perfect. Geez its damn lawn mower with a prop hanging off the back. kicking that go devil to the curb was the best thing I ever done. I always hear about "how great gd customer service is" well I must have been calling the wrong number they never did one thing to help me out. I went through 4 drive shafts on that thing and they didn't do shit to help me out. $600 gets expensive after 4 replacement and that's when I called it quits. 3 out of 4 times was because the idiots at the shop put the seals in wrong and you know what coco said? Sorry you were miss using it. The 4th time i Tried to get it fixed at the gd dealer and they told me they wouldn't work on it for at least a month because of the Houston boat show..now that just shitty business. So I did it my self. Called them when I had a few questions on things in the process and they referred me to the owners manual.. Had the LU on my gator tail literally come apart and called gt no questions asked I was up and running the next week. Had one cylinder shut down called gt again no questions asked, took it to the shop back up and running next day. I've ordered probably 5-6 small parts here and there from gt not once did they ask me to pay anything and it was at my door within 2 days. Coco actually called me about 2 weeks ago and asked if I sold my motor. Told him I gave that pos away and bought a gator tail. And then put it on a go devil boat. He,wasn't to happy about that and went on an on about how he wouldnt warranty it and all that. Told him I wasn't worried about it any way I cut up the poor designed boat anyway. Had nothing to say and I went on with my day pretty satisfied
There is usually two sides to every story and we won't hear Godevils. Unfortunately there are people in this world that can break a new anvil and then blame the anvil. I suspect Coco is just as pleased as you that you went with GT. I hope your luck with it is better, but I don't envy GT.

He does. They all do. Mr Frank could you make the link available for us to view. I'm not a Facebook man. My wife tried to open the link and it went to the west Tennessee site. I tried to join on her Facebook account but was unable or she is trying to save money. Lol

Re: GDSD with F-N-R
I've had a 16 hp GDLT since 1998 and was using them since the early 80's.
I think Coco had a good idea back then....chances are, he probably put together another good idea.
I run a Prodrive and endorse this message.

The four go devil motors I owned were great and the customer service was great. I never had any issues with them
-----So after 4 great GD motors you bought a PD. Then you had the PD rig for sale while you considered buying a GT rig. Then you realized you'd lose too much money on the new PD rig you just purchased. So you spent 1500$ to swap from the gen 3 LU to the gen 4 LU.
Just guessing at all of this. Let me know whether im right or wrong..lol

Re: GDSD with F-N-R
You off on a couple things. Switched from GD because I wanted neutral and reverse. That doesn't mean that I had issues with GD. They treated me great. Yes, I had my rig for sale and was looking at GTR. I was unhappy with the Gen 3 performance. I took it off the market after realizing a couple things, one you are correct I would have lost money, and two I spoke with someone at PD that agreed to help me solve my problem. PD ran some test and solved a few things for me. Now I have the speed I'm looking for but need to get my prop balanced. I like GTR equally to PD and my company owns a GTR that I drive often. I buy and sell guns, trucks and rigs all the time. I can never make up my mind. None of that has anything to do with GD treating me right or the success I had with the motors they sold me.

Re: GDSD with F-N-R
I'll say I thoroughly enjoy my GoDevil boat and motor combo just how it is. With direct drive forward only. I'll be interested in a retro-fit if one becomes available but I won't be the first in line for it I'm sure, and won't be hanging a for sale sign on my motor just because this one comes into fruition. I'm glad to see the company as a whole embrace the market's request to go backward and sit still and I'm also glad to see them stick to their guns on their reliability standards. Simplicity is one of the main things that drew me to the brand to begin with and although things evolve, they look to still be keeping things as simple as feasible. I'm very much anticipating things to come from the company that has long been labeled the dinosaurs of the industry. For some reason, you just can't seem to kill 'em. As for everyone coming out of the wood-work wanting to bash Go-Devil or their product for one reason or another, it seems to always be the same ones with that same old round stuck in the chamber waiting for a place to shoot it. Adding neutral or reverse to the equation won't change that.

Re: GDSD with F-N-R
Glad to see them making a move forward. I had a couple of their longtails, couple gd boats and a gdsd. They were good ppl and always helpful if I had a question. Their products that I owned were solid as well. Never had a negative experience. I hope it does well if released.

Re: GDSD with F-N-R
Then your old GD must be pretty reliable because GD will not sell any parts to anyone without getting their frame SN first and cross checking their chain of custody and ownership - this policy has led to the recovery of hundreds of stolen motors.... Or you don't have a listed phone number and the new owner provided paperwork to prove proper ownership....

Re: GDSD with F-N-R
No I was pointing out that F N R and trim cause issues that I would rather avoid.... That "reliable trim" that you mentioned already FAILED on your motor.... But you did not tell us just how far off center did you move that GTRrrgh to get rid of the prominent tiller torque ? And once it is off center to make it go straight forward - how much off line is it going backwards ----
