I am new to MMT and am looking to buy my first mud boat. I have an offer from a buddy for a 2002 16' GD with 23hp Vanguard LT. Boat is in good shape, hunted lightly last season. He was the first and only owner, motor has maybe 50 hrs on and been stored in dry storage. According to him everything is in good running order. He is asking 3800 for boat motor and trailer with Avery duck blind. This sound reasonable?? I've seen the boat but not ridden in, and obviously do not plan to buy until I've driven myself and deemed all components worthy of purchase. Thanks for the help.

That sounds like a great price to me. If everything is running good, I'd jump all over that.

I dont think your going to be happy with the smaller motor. Especially when that grass gets wet on your blind and you throw alot of weight in the boat. (3 guys gear) your going to have a hard time with that kind of a load.

That's a great deal as long as the hull is in good condition. Go run it, and if it runs good, jump on it.

Thanks for the response. It seems like a great deal and the boat is in great shape. I will take a ride soon and see. I have full intentions to switch out the motor for a larger SD later but I just don't think I can beat that price at this time. We will see.

Thats a good little package with that motor. It will push it fine. Just get all that old waterlogged flotation out of the boat if you do buy it.

Good price for a starter boat. You can always wheel and deal when you are ready to upgrade. I would look at the bottom of the boat and make sure the bottom is smooth and without hooks. It is not going to be a speed demon, so keep that thought in mind. Enjoy!
