I am new at mud motors and I need one on my boat due to grass and what not. I have a 1444 express Jon with aluminum deck and gun box. I am looking at a 23 mini HD mud buddy ( original balance drive). With power tilt and clutch. Would that motor be too much for my rig? And what about speeds with no load. Thanks for any input!!

I assume its a used motor. If so put it on you hull and run it to see.

Welcome! What part of North LA?

It ought to push it well. I'm sure someone oh here has done it before...

Got a buddy that was runnin a 23 LA Special (23 Mini with clutch, trim, & big blade, plus 32" outdrive instead of 27") on a 1442 or 1448 Alweld. Boat did real well with it. 3 ppl, it ran about 23-24 bone stock. I say go for it, then in 6 months, go ahead and get a mud boat hull like the rest of us did.
