I've never run a mudmotor.I have a layout style duckhunting boat called aBarnegat Bay sneakbox.I hunt the marsh in MObile ,Ala. Its been powered by a 5 HP outboard.I need a lot better shallow water capability & I also need to be able to take the motor off & stick it below deck so I can hide on the flats where they'res no cover.The Rickshaw motor looks like it has this capability but I was worried about the low HorsePower.I'm confident that it will push it fast enough but what about thick submerged vegitation?I don't mind having to push a little but wanted to get my moneys worth. any expirence out there? |

A small MM should do fine, I have seen them on layout type hulls before. As far as taking it off and putting it under the deck, don't know about that one. I wouldn't but maybe you can. I would worry about oil in the motor getting displaced which is not a problem with a 2 stroke outboard. Any reputable dealer should let you put one on your hull for a test run. |

What he said, I have actually seen boats similar to yours before and I think just mounting a mm on it and covereing it up should/will work fine. I pass through Mobile quite often when Im leaving school and heading back home to Ms. Got a nice BPS there now and Im usually not one to brag on BPS much but the service and selection there is the best I have been in, and I go in allot of them trying to find jigs and such for crappie fishing |

While the RICKSHAW looks OK "on paper - and has a really low price... If your boat could take the weight (110 lb w/fuel) the 6HP GoDevil is a very good choice and incredibly durable - and more money... But I would expect it would still be running strong in 5 years too... Bet you will have a hard time finding a running sub-compact longtail out there that is 5 years old... My first ever GoDevil ran for over 10 years (I think it may have been 15) till Ike got it... It wasn't pretty but it was still going strong... You just got to love a product like that... |

dunno bout the weight of the 6 hp godevil but Utah Marsh Motors has a 7 hp longtail motor that is only 62 pounds http://www.utahmarshmotors.com/ the owner and maker of these used to be a member here (on old site) Mark F. Cheney otherwise I know he is a member on the refuge |
