 one or two battries
I have a 35 GTR and was told not to run a spot light on the same battery as the motor because it would burn up the charging system. How do yall run a spot light ? Do i have to run two battries

 Re: one or two battries
I run the motor on original batt; all other accy on second. Something about the motor not charging until 2000 rpm's. I believe minimal accy usage wouldn't be too bad, but wouldn't you rather know you're getting home one evening. Remember, no rope start

 Re: one or two battries
yea getting home is important. The problem i have is i leave my boat in the water over night and not able to charge battery without removing it and bringing to camp. With my outboard i could run all weekend and keep my battery charged. Also dont want two battries in boat

 Re: one or two battries
Well then take your chances that you won't use more than you can charge. Like I said, small usage at times prolly won't kill it, but the GT dudes told me to get a second batt for my lights. I run two aircraft landing lights in the front, and I have a hardhat light that I use also. Usually not together, but for froggin, we idle a lot and use the hh light alot. Don't take the chance on only one batt. Good Luck

 Re: one or two battries
I have run my 36PD on a lawn tractor battery for over 18 months with no problems. Its a 425ca battery from Auto Zone. That includes using the running & HH light for several hours at a time frogging. I carry second battery up front for a spare just in case and for a second HH light. So a standard battery for the motor should be fine.

 Re: one or two battries
The thing is the clutch draws 20 amps and the altanator charges 20 amps so you kinda at a stand off. I run a headlight and do fine but maybe with two you might have problems . Instead of a second bat. go to wall mart and get you a jump starter pack for 35$ and keep it in your boat never have to worry about a dead batt. and only weighs a couple pounds

 Re: one or two battries
Some of you boys think bout this shit way to much. I been running the same wal mart battery for the past 5 years on a mud motor, used two lights froggin for a couple hours many times with no problems whatsoever.
It's a fuking lawnmower engine

 Re: one or two battries
I would hate to be tranded too. Thats why I carry a second. They don't weigh much and its good piece of mind since there is no pull starting this thing.

I put it in the battery box under my extended deck where its strapped down. Same place the TM battery goes.

 Re: one or two battries
All may Accessories ar off the cranking battery. Ran all duck season with my HH light on that battery. But then again I was wide open so charging is not the issue. Common sense tells you an alternater dont put out much juice at idle. Thats when you need a second battery IMO.

 Re: one or two battries
I made something that works to get you out of a bind, get a cordless drill from Harbor freight take the battery out and hook up wires where the battery connected. You have to make a handle for the chuck side and when you crank it with the trigger pressed it will charge your battery enough to get it to start, you never have to worry about your back up battery being dead. found the info here on how to do it! http://www.zetatalk.com/energy/tengy05n.htm

 Re: one or two battries
At best the motor will maintain your charged battery. Charge your battery at home every now and then is a good idea. Make sure your starting your trip with a good battery to begin with.

 Re: one or two battries
Get you a squirrel and a wheel and hook that up to a small generator.
Then you won't have to worry about the charging system of the motor.
