 Newbie needs some help please!
I'm looking to get a mud motor for the back of a 15' jon. Its going to stay down at a private lake (200 acres) south of Houston that we fish and hunt. The lakes are full of thick milfoil, coontack, peppergrass, reeds, and stumps. The motor will be used for fishing as much or more than duck hunting, so I would think reverse would be really handy to have. Anything from 10-25 hp is kinda what I'm looking for.
I'd really like to find a decent used one, I'd rather not spend an arm and a leg on one.
Any suggestions on what motor I should look for?
Thanks!

As others have said, if you have to have reverse, GT or PD. But for something inexpensive a GD longtail would probably suit your needs just fine.

And I dont know how fast you are planning on going, but a 25hp longtail isnt nearly as fast as a 25 hp outboard.
Reverse is nice, but definetly not a priority.

Yeah, I have a 16 horse Godevil Longtail on my alumicraft 1436 with pods, basically making it a 1636 and it pushes really well. If your going to go in shallow stuff then a longshaft is the way to go. they are a real work horse and you can find them for a reasonable price in the classified listings on here. good luck!
