In the market for either a go devil surface drive or a prodrive. any suggestions? The FPR on the prodrive is irrelevent to my decision so any suggestions would be helpful.

Post subject:  Re: Pro Drive Vs. Go devil SD

they get side tracted very easy.

do you have a dealer for either close by? that would make a difference. what hull, it seems that pro drives dont like some hulls. do you need reverse or not? if so the godevil is out. if you dont, why would you risk the parts that could brake?

ive said it before these two motors are as far apart as you can get. they both serve the same purpose but have alot of design differences. ill try to help. the pd has alot of parts that allow you to have neutral and reverse. the more parts you have the better chance they will brake. the gd has neither of these features and less parts. both are stout but you wont have the same features. again NO ONE has ever broken a gear set on a gd and NO ONE has ever broken a belt on a pd. read around here and make a choice for your self. or take someones advise and purchase what they have. either way you will get a quilality motor. there is no question they are all good motors. you wont go wrong with any of them. all four have followers all four have broken and all four will serve you well. options will make a defference as will imo dealer support. i still beleave having a dealer close is a big part of the choice.

I have a grad and love it. For me, a pdr isn't what I need. If I upgrade soon it will be a gtr. For a gdsd vs a pd without reverse, I'd defiantly get the gdsd. If you need reverse gdsd doesn't offer that. No reverse, power tilt is great but not really needed IMO. If you're comparing gdsd to fpr prodrive, it's all in what you need

gonna be putting it on a 1448 weld built but i will eventually get a godevil boat or prodrive boat later on... Not very sure where a prodrive dealer is around here but there is a godevil dealer down the road.. my buddy just got a go devil sd and loves it so im leaning towards that i just wanted some inputs from guys that really know about these motors.

I wasn't talking about the longtails fellas, I was talking about the surface drives. I know there are more GD longtails than anything.

You really think there are more GDSD's than anything? Just didn't seem that way to me, looks like all the SD owners jumped on the mudbuddy/pd/gt bandwagon.

ALL of the motors will get you where you want to go. Since you have narrowed it down to only 2 brands, I would say ProDrive. Reverse or not, thats your choice. NEUTRAL is what is important to me. It's way to dangerous to have the prop turning all the time. To many things are going on around a boat in a hunting situation and way to much going on at a boat ramp to worry about prop spinning wildly. That's my .02$.

Big difference between a BB gun and basically a 12" knife spinning 1,000 rpms with children, dogs, and possibly hungover individuals in the vicinity at dark30 in the morning.

Check out the video forum. See who's stuck and who aint!

Clutches and reverse are fine, but they break! GD always brings you home.

Just my .02 Been running my same LT for over 14 years and it's ALWAYS brought me back. :P

Giga, you show your stupidity everyday in some way or another. You can't tell me that you NEVER crank your motor to warm up before you hit the water!! You just jump in and go EVERYTIME!! I call BULL$HIT!

I have children and hunting dogs. When I go hunting it's hard to keep an eye on all of them 100% of the time. That's why you need nuetral.

I damn sure wouldnt be hangin a 35/36 hp heavy ass motor on a 1448. That is about the worst size boat for a surface drive. Just go ahead and sell that and get you a true mud hull.

You are actually correct Giga. The man asked for choices on a motor. He started a thread which had about a half of a turd of information in it. he didn't say until several lines down what he has currently, a 1448 Weldbilt.

he is asking about a 35-36 hp motor. Still hasn't said what he plans to put it on other than a PD or GD boat. No dimensions are given. Again, resembalnce of a turd of information.

More missing information that we know nothing about to help him. he doesn't have any information in his avatar or signature page about where he is located or what he owns. Although some people think this info. is cool, it does have a purpose. Again, resemblance of a turd of information. So that's what he got. Opinions and turds of information.
