Hello all,

I have been reading on this forum for quite some time doing research and now have found my beauty - it's an older Go Devil with an 8hp briggs i/c for $700 that I plan on running on a 14 ft alumacraft. Let me just throw out there, I'm not a hunter I'm a fisherman. But the river I fish is very shallow in some spots and an outboard just won't get over some of the rocks.

Anyways - to my questions. Is an 8hp Go Devil going to kick real hard and be uncomfortable to control or even dangerous? I'm a pretty big guy so I'm not really worried about it just curious as to what some others might have experienced.

Also, I'm sure the seals will need to be replaced. I scoured the Go Devil website and can't find where to order replacement parts, do I have to call them to order seals and what not?

Before someone comes on saying to use the Search tool I already did, searching "godevil maintenance" and even just "godevil" there is just too many results to search through and the people here seem nice enough to answer a couple of questions.

you have to directly call go devil and have your serial # to order parts. have you bought the engine yet? an 8 hp engine isnt gonna get you through alot of stuff if you do get in something nasty though. for $300 more, i have a 16 hp godevil for sale.

I've been through the whole river. No mud, just a few shallow spots you can run the whole river with a canoe so an 8hp should do fine, there's just a few shallow spots with light rapids so I won't be beating the thing to death, I'd bet I don't even hit a rock with it. I just need something to run the shallow spots - there's still plenty of water just not enough for an outboard if there's a few rocks sticking up.

It's gunn a be underpowered.

A long tail and outboard are completely different monsters, it wont be nearly as hard to run as a 35 long tail but it's not a 9.9 johnson either.

Thanks for the replies. I'm not worried about speed. I've pushed this boat with a variety of motors - 5hp, 7.5 hp, and 9.5hp. If it gets me where I'm going I'm not concerned about speed.

Understand the speed part but your prolly gonna be let down is what everyone us trying to tell ya

dont sweat it man. i run a 16hp gdlt and in the rocky rivers its too much so if you want to draft shallow and weight is an issue an 8 will be fine. i just made a 9hp to putt around the river with. yea its slow but when you hit a rock doing even 5mph youre gonna do some damage. i can run 6 miles of river and never get above idle. i would recommend if your not in any mud go up a size on your prop. i ran a 9x6 and it strolled right on. i have a 8x4 on my 9hp.

Hello all!

I got the motor yesterday, it's very clean and well maintained. I contacted Go Devil and they informed me it is a 1992. It has a 3 blade prop on it, so I figured it must be pretty old. Going to replace the seals and tune up the motor just to be safe. Can't wait for it to warm up outside so I can try it out, seems so far to be everything I was looking for.
