Post help with pulleys and belt.
well i built a custom surface drive motor and decided to make it chain driven. the motor it self looks like a mud buddy with the same style design minus a few things. the chain driven idea worked well but i am affraid if i hit a stump i am going to shear the teeth on the sprockets. so i am going to convert it to a belt drive setup.

the engine is a 20 hp with a 1 inch shaft. and the bottom shaft is 78 threaded. what i need to know is what sprockets i need and which belt. i went on mudd buddy but couldnt find anything for that size engine or a engine close to it.

if anyone has any help that would be great even a few extra belts and pulleys laying around they want to sell i would be happy to pay top dollar for them. thanks

Go to the Gates website and download their free design software. If you can't figure that out, call one of their applications engineers and they will walk you through it. Once you have the pulleys belt and sheaves selected, they will give you the contact info. for one of their local dealers. You will just need to know your shaft center to center measurement, any space constraints you may have for the diameter of your pulleys, your shaft diameters, your ratio and your safety factor (I have used 3X with no problems)

thanks for your help. i called today and talked to a guy, i gave him all the info. told him the same stuff as above and he said he couldnt help me. he needed more measurements. i told him that i didnt have the old gears and belt. this was just what i had found off the mudbuddy sight. so he didnt really help any. i guess i have to spend the 300 and get them shipped from mudbuddy.

thanks for your help though

I would get those threads machined off of the shaft and use taper lock pulleys like GD uses. You can get everything from Gates
