Just ordered my first surface drive last week and can't wait to see how she rolls. Just wondering if anyone has run this set up or something similar. I have installed a large gas tank up front (20 gal) and will be installing some smart tabs to keep it ballanced. Has anyone had any bad/good experience with smart tabs and MM reverse. I know they prob wont help in the mud but flats fishing and big water running will be great. Also, im thinking that 30 mph by myself should not be an issue, does this sound reasonable? Thoughts, any input is appreciated. |

my thoughts?? why do people go ordering boats and motors first. then post a message on here asking peoples opinions and wanting to know if they made a good choice? do your homework first...then make an informed decision. Since you already wrote a check for your rig, ill give you the good news and the bad. IF your war eagle has a ribbed bottom you will have a hard time in the mud. Judging from the pics on their website...it does. They are also made of .100 aluminum so I hope you don't run area's with a lot of stumps, cypress knees, rocks, underwater volcanos, etc . Your GTR is a nice motor, and reverse will come in handy. However, if you hit 30mph on a stock motor you will either be really lucky or full of sh!t like half the people on here when you post speeds. Should run around 27 mph. load carrying will be around 22-23 mph. If you got the cash, call Hoyt and have him add a stage 1 before you take delivery. |

Thanks Marsh Chicken. Just an fyi, i did my research...a lot of it. I know what kind of ribbed bottom rig i have and am not too worried about it. I dont run trees or thick cypress. I find a stump every now and then, but its mostly bays, rivers and venice swamp. Those ribs dont help in the mud, ive delt with that first hand but its a great all around boat and thats what i want it for. I'm just another guy stuck at work and wishing i was on the water. Trying to kill time and learn a little more about the engine. Appreciate your input. |

im not trying to crush your dream. just makes me wonder why so many people go buy sh!t and then wait to ask questions about their choice after they already ordered it. If you did your homework, and thats what you settled on...then more power to ya. im not a fan of the war eagles, G3, etc for mud motor apps. I went on the war eagle website...they advertise it as a boat made for mud motors...then they put a ribbed bottom on it and make the thing out of .100 aluminum?? just my opinion...better bang for the buck elsewhere. they are a big name boat company trying to dabble in a different market. not a terrible boat, just not built to the specifications that a lot of other MM boats are made. on a positive note...it floats, you can drink beer in it, and go fishing. it will work! |

I hear ya man and no feelings hurt here. I found the boat used a while back and have struggled with an LT for the past year. War Eagle makes a solid skiff...for what it was designed for and mud aint it. I hiked out 400 yrds last year...2 days in a row. I know it doesnt compare to the GTs, GDs, Xcels, GTRs or custom rigs these days. I threw some $$ at it recently and want to see what she can do. Had a nice livewell put in as well as that gas tank. Should be perfect for some camping weekends in the marsh. I debated an outboard for a while, but max hp is 40, so i figured whats the best of both worlds...GTR. Maybe a few yrs down the line i will upgrade the boat as well. I just wanted to see if anyone out there had a set up similar to mine and if they could give me an idea on #s. Given the weight of this hull compared to the previous boat builders, I would be suprised if I didnt see 30 mph but maybe im basing my estimates off other peoples exagerations...thats usually a problem |

If you already owned the boat, that makes a lot more sense. These boats all run different speeds, just depends on how the motor matches up with the boat. only real way to find out is to go run it! good luck hope you like the GTR . Keep an eye out on here, boats are always coming up for sale or trade at a good price! |
