Well its happened to most ppl on here and it friggin happened this mornin. Been having a great weekend at oak island in my new Excel. Put a hurting on some reds and specks in the marshes. Walked to the dock this mornin to get on em one last time and boom. There's my brand new rig, completely swamped. Only piece sticking out was the fill tank for the gas tank. No pics as it was a mad scramble to get it out. Apparently during the tide change the rope came slack enough to hang up on the bottom of the dock. High tide came back and thats all she wrote. In the end, my motor has no electrics, trim is gone, and my boats electronics are completely forked. No spotlights, winch, interior lights, bilge pump. It's total bullchit. Only thing water didn't get in was the damn gas tank. Needless to say my 4th of July will be spent working on this. |

Damn that sux, get that motor fired as soon as ya can! At the very least pull the plugs and get some fogging oil in there and spin over by hand. |

Post subject: | Re: flotation on excel f4 sucks arse |
Pull plugs & drain the oil. Put in some cheap oil & turn it over a few times without plugs in. After no water sprays out, replace plugs & crank it. Run for a lil while then drain oil again. Repeat until oil's not milky. Or just file it on insurance & get a new one. Sent from my Droid because I'm trying to be as cool as you someday. |

Got motor straightened out this morning. Pulled starter off the hustler for now. I was tempted to file on insurance but hated to cuz I dropped a small fortune on it with mods |

I've swamped mine too. pulled plugs out and turned it over to get all water out. ran cheap oil thru it. take starter off and blow it out also(i didnt do that and eventually had to replace mine). It's been purring like a kitten since then! |

Sounds like the floation worked. If you did not have foam, it would have been on the bottom. Does your insurance cover mods? I left a message with my agent yesterday to add mods to my policy. Sent from my Droid using Tapatalk. |

Post subject: | Re: flotation on excel f4 sucks arse |
It was on bottom. Only reason that part was sticking out was because thats where the rope was tied to. It's been an interesting day so far. Excel makes very neat electrical system on the boats. So neat its a pain to work on |

That's sucks then. I have swamped my old boat twice. It gets expensive replacing things. Sent from my Droid using Tapatalk. |

I'd think you'd only need to replace fuses on the boat. What all "electrical systems" do you have? My insurance policy is an "agreed value" policy. That way, I get back what I have in it, not what a lil book says it's worth. Sent from my Droid because I'm trying to be as cool as you someday. |

Wish you wouldve got pics of it,because if the flotation actually failed,Excel might have covered it. But its still worth putting a.call into them, and see what they say. |

Led spotlight, interior leds, nav lights, bilge, winch is whats in boat. Winch was the biggest pain cuz of being hidden. Got everything that the salt water corroded out. Just waiting for 2maw cuz the parts store is closed 2day so I can get starter and fuses. And I will be putting in a call to excel 2maw about flotation. I'm not mad or bashing excel. These kinda things happen. No reason to be mad. Just curious on flotation for other ppls safety |

U need 2 go ahead and change all the wiring n the boat while your at it. Salt water plays he'll on copper wiring. U will end up changing all wiring a little at a time due to shorts in the Next couple years. |

Update on boat. Put call into Excel and talked to a few ppl up there and my dealer. Idk what all conspired between the mm manufacturers so not trying to tick no1 off but they are some good ppl up that way. Had to ask em a couple times to repeat themselves cuz this was the first time talkin to som1 from Utah haha. We came to an agreement that pleasantly surprised me. Just gota get my rig back to my dealer amd everything that messes up will be replaced. Also helps that my dealer is a jam up fella. Big kudos to Kevin Lusk ay low country mud buddy and the guys at excel/mud buddy. So ill be back on the water here soon |

Did excel ever give you a straight foward answer on why the flotation didn't do its job? Does your boat have foam under the floor and sides? Just curious to how much foam is in the F4? |

Boats at dealer as of now. Waiting on a few pieces from Excel to come in and ill be back on the water. Only thing bad is Excel didn't give me a sure shot answer. They blamed it on being tied up which I will say made it go under but I don't think that would caused it to sink to the bottom in under two hours. No hard feeling against the company. Just ready to get back on the water. And as I said before I would buy another Excel in a heart beat if my future boat wasn't going to consist of dual motor cc. If they made their shallow water F4 cc to fit duals id buy it |

Well - what was the verdict ??? |

Post subject: | Re: flotation on excel f4 sucks arse |
Do not have a verdict. G lenn talked to me about it and said they are doing tests on the F4s that have built in gas tanks, winches etc. Think it boiled down to them doing tests on bare bone hulls with the smaller motors. Bad thing is most boat companies test bare bone boats |

I'm willing to bet GD is not. Only thing is, it may be waterlogged. Keep your hands and feet inside. We are about to go for a ride. Lol. |

The problem is actually 3 fold. The foam takes a little longer than 8 hours to soak up 250 lbs of water. Thus, giving an owner a false sense of security when his chit sinks 2 years down the road cause they didn't get the memo for free flotation change. Dat's a Mat'r Fact. Other than that, GD is the best. |

Post subject: | Re: flotation on excel f4 sucks arse |
From what I was told was what u said giga. Companies base it off outboards. Also told that Excel uses the closed cell foam which doesn't absorb water unless punctured and considering mine was only under for 2 hours not to worried about the saturated foam. All in all Excel is working to fix the problem and I'm back running. If it happens again I'm just gona claim insurance and get a new rig |

Giga why would uscg test with a outboard when gd will not let one on his hull not trying to bash just to.understand And I drive a pd and approve this message |

Im going to be honest, if my boat had flotation and sunk to the bottom I would be pretty pissed. I also wouldn't be happy with the company, unless they told me if I talked bad about them on the internet they wouldnt help me fix the problem...Then i guess i could be happy. |

Actually they didn't say nuttin like that barroll. I'm just speaking the truth. Was I upset when I seen it underwater? Of course I was. But I was also a helluva lot more thankful it happened at our dock instead of my family loaded on it and heading down the intracoastal towards southport. Just my 2 cents. Plus if thru told me that then y did I bash it right off the start with the header? |
