Post subject:  GT Trim Question

GT has been sitting up for about 4 weeks so I went out yesterday to start it up. Motor started fine, idled, reversed, everything worked. Went ahead and trimmed up from trailering bracket and then trimmed it back down. During down trim, it stopped working. Tried several more times and got nothing. Shut motor off, pulled switch cover (new one on tiller), to see if any wires had come loose. All connected and no corrosion. So I tried to trim again, nothing. Turned key to on position and switched clutch from start to forward to see if it was clicking at back of motor. It was intermittent at best. Would flip switch several times before I could get it to engage. Trim still won't work. Any Ideas?? :?: :?: :?: :?:

Don't know of any fuses between either of them. Also, when GT put on the new control box, they had to replace the diodes in the motor (kept blowing fuses).

Make sure the nut is tight on that lil box on the side of the engine. Mine seems to loosen up at times

Howard I'm sure you did but check your battery connections and the charge on the battery. Is the trim not working in both directions?

Yes if the motor is starting you should be good. On the side of the engine by the starter there is a small box that has a piece of plate on it going to the starter I think and a wire going to it. If the nut is loose or there is a bad connection there that will keep your trim from working. Check that out,I've had it happen and just had to tighten it up.

I just had this same problem and it was a bad relay. The relays are either in your battery box or on side of motor if you open these up , I had all kinds of corrosion in there so I swapped em out and cleaned the connections in the plug, packed em full of dielectric grease and it works like a champ now.

Also their is a fuse in that line that wouldn't hurt to check but I would guess corrosion in a connector.

If the solenoids are clicking on the up and down side check the voltage on the two wires going to the trim motor. With the trim switch depressed up or down you should have 12 volts on one wire and the other should be grounded. Flip the switch in the opposite direction and the voltage and ground should switch to the opposite wires as well. If you have 12 volts and a ground and the trim motor does not run you have a issue with the trim motor, worn or dirty brushes.

Ace has the upgraded control panel and they elleminated the relays.
