what is the performance difference between a completely slick bottom verses one that has dips and valleys in it, for instance on a 54 inch wide bottom boat. We using it only for hunting purposes, have not ran it yet, picking up a gtr 35 this week for it. Repainted it today and while painting noticed the dips or valleys in the bottoms between the interior ribs.

If the boat has horizontal (side 2 side) bracing, that washboard effect will slow you down & somewhat hinder performance.

which way do the ribs for the bracing run?


If the bracing is front to back, then really only the dents right at the transom that create a wedge will really hinder the boats performance.

it is a gt1854, has mostly ribs running the length of the boat but a couple crossing it also

You should be fine as long as they a running along the boat and not across

The "tunneling" won't hurt your performance. That's why they build these boats the way they do.

You can still get a "hook" back by the transom though. Anywhere that water can cavitate or run in to resistance can cause problems.

Unless the dents are right up against the transom, you shouldn't really even be able to tell the difference. If they are near the transom, it'll cause the boat to want to plow instead of plane out.
