Had a neighbor recent purchase a 16x48 round chine go devil surface drive boat with a 35. After one run he has put it for sale. I thought round chine boats are suppose to turn on a dime? because that mofo slides like michael jackson moon walking. And the fact that they sell that motor for 5k is absolutely ridiculous. I've been around a few surface drives on skiffs and never liked them now I saw the whole set up I can't believe folks been spending their hard earned dollars on that pansy ass shit. carry on. |

ONLY in defense of the round chine boat... They WILL turn on a dime in 12" or deeper water, but all boats are gonna slide in the mud & super shallows. On a different note, I didn't know GD made a 48" round chine boat, thought they only made 38, 44, & 56 round chines & made 48" square chine. ![]() Hey Jacob, how does my round chine turn? ![]() |

I run a double taper on my skiff I know how they are SUPOSE to turn. giga corrected me in a pm the 16x48 is NOT round chine but a taper. It doesn't matter to me daddy always said before he left you can polish a turd all you want but in the end you'll still have a turd. |

my gd 16x56 hunting model hull w/ round chines turns sharp as a f'in knife. i've compared it first hand to another "nameless/non-gd surface drive" hull w/ tapered and it was night & day - water & in the mud. had a friend laugh that i bought an '80s design, but to me, it's great - extremely well laid out, tough as hell & well priced. very happy w/ my rig & happy to trade 1-2 mph for better control. i have yet to compare it to the stepped hull - though i suspect turns in the water will be the same. my question on these two (stepped & round chines) are in da mud. |

To each his own. I went riding with my wife and daughter yesterday. Did a little fishing and did some scouting. I have a 27 gdsd with a 1644 round chine and I love it. It does everything I need it to do. Sounds like your neighbor is the dumbass spending money on something he evidently had no clue about. That's his own fault. |

All this hype about shit no breaking is bull. All those extra parts they had when they built your Motor robin got put on my motor. So y'all are ok paying 5k for something that still should cost a few hundred more than s longtail? It's just plum fuxking ridiculous y'all pay that for so much less. I mean Prodrive is milled from solid chunk of aluminum gt atleast throws in reverse and neutral and go devil has what a u joint with sheet metal. It should be priced similar to te copper heads bc that's all it is. All i was trying to say is coco has ANOTHER un happy customer. |

I made this post due to bring forth a question and hopefully a answer about the reasoning for high pricing and why these rigs usually (boats) didn't turn. And i enjoy pissing off old men who are blantlly ignorant. It passes my time while i deal with the concrete jungle. |

Haha...im not fucked up about my choice at all. I've got a 65hr boat and motor and I got less in it than you can buy a new 1644 boat/trailer for. For what I hunt...shallow hard bottom river and stump fields...I don't see any other brand being better for me. Im not a whiney little bitch and I actually have some strength in my arms. The longtail was fine for me just not fast enough. The gdsd is faster and easier to drive without a bunch of stuff on it that I don't need. Problem solved. ![]() |
