Ok....what is the skinny on performance crimps? Do they actually help the performance of a hull? I know they can help with spray, but do they actually have any benefit to the performance of the hull?

Sucks in lillies. I wont get them on my next boat. When lillies are thick they act like hands and hold the boat.

Are you refering to crimps on the bottom of the hull? Or the side?

  sweetens the KOOLAID.......

Mine give strength the full lenght of the sides all the way to the front but the ones i have seen (on cusotmer boats) in the past year don't run far enough forward for my liking and dont stop much of the wiggle and giggle in the sides. ;)

Not as strong as this type of crimp, but I think what yall call the performance crimp looks better. But I'll take strength over looks any day.

That crimp do do noting but looks and little strength . It actually drafts deeper in the water than the regular flare

The crimps don't have anything to do with the width of the boat you put as much flare as you want in the side no matter what crimp you have

Look at these boats in this post. Crimps on the sides DO affect the width......

Do we need to define "performance crimp?" maybe the confusion is between the 2 bend crimp (which would make the beam wider) and a 3 bend crimp which wouldn't change the beam (unless you intentionally made the last bend different)

Post subject:  Re: Advantages of Performance Crimps

Only way to keep the same width with the performance crimp is to not put as much flare in the sides. They do strengthen the sides and keep them from rippling the sides when being welded if ya not careful. Other than that its pretty much for looks.
