Just got my new motor last week and was looking it over with a friend today when I noticed this. Can anyone tell me what it is and why it's not hooked up?

Idk what its called but right under your breather tub there is suppose to be a hook-up for that. Suppose to be where that square head bolt goes. Maybe a expert can chime in

Judging from the location, my best guess is that wire hooks to a low oil sensor (which usually comes on all new MB motors, however it isnt there). However the wire that hooks to the low oils sensor is usually green, and I cant blow the pic up but it looks purple.

Where does it come from (on the other side of the motor)?

Thats what I thought it was an oil pressure switch like my old one. It's black comes from the harness on the other side of the motor

I'm sure you can get one from mb or even briggs. Cheap insurance imo

My 45 mag is the same way. The wire is just zip tied up. Don't know why.
