What I'm looking for is something like this to mount under my poling platform.



I've seen the Tractor Tunes on Cabelas for $399.

The box in the above picture is on eBay for $329.

Tractor tunes will sell the box and speakers, minus the stereo for $279.

Another company on eBay sells just the box with speakers for $249.

Since I already have the stereo and the speakers, i was hoping to just buy an empty enclosure. Anyone know someone that makes these or know of another company with a less expensive empty enclosure?

Build it out of Plywood, then bring it to the local Bed Liner Sprayer to spray.. Everytime they spray a bed of a truck, they have to shoot out about 10 seconds of material. To spray that, it will take a whole 15. They probaly wont even charge you.

AND...

with Mininum moving parts, it shouldnt break

My boat had a box similar to that when I boat it 1/2 in plywood with bed liner 2 6 in speakers with a radio. If you don't have an amp you probably wont be able to hear it while running. I have 2 6x9 wakeboard speakers bout two foot from my head with a 800 watt son and can barely hear them

I currently have a Sony deck with 2 6.5 Infinities in the front deck and 2 in the middle box seat. Pushing it with a 400 watt amp.

Getting a new 6'x19" coffin box built for my boat and really didn't want to cut 2 holes In it.

I would be careful with Bed liner on Wood. I did a trailer floor with bed liner over wood and it bubbled a ton and didn't last too long. I used the roll on though, maybe the spray on would be better...?

Or just use the rubber undercoating spray from any auto parts store. I spray all my stuff with it and it holds up OK. If it peels, just spray some more on.

Jr, don't make me drive to up Dallas & slap the shit outta you. I know the difference in MDF & particle board. What exactly do you think paper is made from anyhow? I know MDF works good for truck or car speaker boxes, but they aren't exposed to the weather. We had a piece of scrap that got left outside one night & it rained. Shit swole from 3/4" up to about 1-1/2" overnight. We left it out to see how big it would get, & after it reached about 2", the ends started to kinda fray & crumble.


I just thought of something!!! Get ya some 1/2" polymer, water-proof, durable, & fairly in expensive. Get it in black & ya won't even have to paint it.

Cabinets and countertops are made with particle board(used to be anyway, some newer ones do use MDF or something similar), which crumbles bad when wet and is made from sawdust and wood chips...MDF is huge sheets of paper, which may have been sawdust at one point, but it don't crumble like sawdust glued together. I deal with that shit everyday, and I deal with the South Dallas folks who have busted ass cars with leaking trunks. I've seen what happens to it when it gets wet, it swells. Once it gets swollen to a certain point, you can pull the sheets of paper apart, but it still doesn't crumble.

I've also seen that it does hold up pretty well with a good coat of quality bedliner. We've done some stuff for boats with cheap customers that didn't want to fork out the dough for fiberglass work. It holds up a lot better with bedliner than a coat of fiberglass resin for sure. The resin cracks.

As far as poly goes, that shit is EXPENSIVE! Anything thick enough to use for this shit anyways. It's harder to cut and put together also. They have special glue's and shit for it, but it's still harder to work with and expensive as fuk.

I'm just concerned about sound quality going from 4 speakers with an amp, mounted in aluminum box seats, to just 2 speakers and no amp but mounted in an enclosed box.

I can't run my rig and hear the music well anyways, so I mostly run the radio when parked on a sandbar.

Maybe the sound quality in an enclosed box, but no amp, will match the sound quality with an amp, but speakers mounted in aluminum enclosures?

BBB, since you only plan to use it when parked anyway, why not just build an ice chest radio? I can actually hear mine while running if I put it in front of me. Plus, it's portable, so I can use it anywhere I want to.

I did the ice chest radio once. Used a cheap ice chest and a $100 Pyle system and wasn't impressed.

Now that I have better components it might be worth giving it a try again. A couple guys had them at our "clear water pirate" run and they sounded pretty good.

One problem I have is I already have 2 holes in my front deck for the 2 speakers.



Guess I could buy a couple of deckplates to cover the holes.



How about a set of these hanging from the platform?


I think I have room for the wake tower speakers. Just don't want to look too much like a redneck.

Pyle, pyramid, boss, fusion, dual = flea market bullshit. I've built several using polk db speakers (one of the most popular speakers for the big wakeboard towers and what not) and a quality head unit with good results. A simple name brand radio actually puts out about the same power as your bullshit flea market amplifier with a big number written on it and has a much cleaner signal.

Use quality parts, and you will get quality results.

This is what I ended up going with. Got off eBay. It's a aquatronics deck with some inexpensive speakers. Doesn't sound near as good as a amp'ed system but I like it being compact and located under the poling platform.

I'd already talked to you about that right after I posted. They do use those polks in the towers, and I actually thought that's what yall were using when I posted that, but you already knew that... I never said anything about spray can bedliner either. All of that shit sux. I said that the herculiner you roll on works best. It can be sprayed, and it's the closest that I've seen to something like a rhino liner.


Keep runnin ya mouth though. Hope you get your boat put back together before the season starts...
