Well after running my boat for two years without a problem, I let a buddy use it for a day and he sunk the boat. Dad and I tore the motor apart cleaning everything we could find, drained oil got water out of engine, and everything else needed to get her running again. Well yesterday went and ran her and she would keep bogging down like she was only running on one piston, got around to working on her today, and after I started her, my connecting rod came apart on the left hand side, and then locked the engine up.

Your buddy is going to buy you a new engine, right. If not, an ass kicking out of this world is due.

I would never feel comfortable asking someone to borrow their stuff like that.

Have woodie weld the rod back together and let him rebuild it. It'll be good as new when he's done with it. That kid is a whiz!

Well good for you...doing it in your own without the help of your parents is definitely something to be proud of.

What size engine is it?

It was a 20hp briggs, but it was getting really old and starting to need a overhaul anyway, I bought a 25 kohler command from a buddy of mine with a bent shaft for 50$ he didnt want it anymore, and had been sitting up in the back yard for a little while.

Did it tear anything else up?

I have fixed a couple of motors that locked up, if the crank isn't scarred too bad you can sand it smooth, order new rods, and maybe even new pistons for good measure.

Once you get the new parts, turn it over for a long time by hand until it moves pretty freely then run it!

Did you have insurance? May not have mattered anyway since someone else was at the helm.

You need assurance, not insurance.

Assure your friend if he don't beg steal and borrow until he can pay you, your gunna whip his ass.
Thats not a real friend if he doesn't even attempt to help out.

I am in the same boat with someone who used my motor. Messed it up, but unlike mississippi's friend, they didn't tell me. Next thing I heard about it was when my dad was trying to help me sell it. I have oil spraying from around the muffler.....;(
