So I found a mud motor I want to buy 1000 miles away from where I live. How many of you have purchased a used motor based on pics and trust in someone you don't know. How did you handle the transaction? Did you have any kind of contract drawn up to guarantee the condition would be as described? It seems to be a common practice these days to buy like this because of the world wide web. The seller of course won't ship until payment clears, the buyer has sent a large sum of money to someone he doesn't know and has to wait for the item to be shipped. Is there some sort of standard procedure to be followed in these situations? Thanks, and this is my first post...love the site.

I bought a 31 mb from a guy in alabama. Talking to him on the phone and in person you would have thought he was a preacher. Drove 12hrs one way to get it. Got it home and the trim went out the first trip. He told me his battery was caising it to be slow when I bought it. Shortly after that the bearings went out in the drive and ate the shaft.....

Buying used can be a money saver but its kinda like Russian roulette. I personally don't think I would buy one I couldn't put my hands on. And do some research and know exactly what to check when you look at one. Its just a decision you gotta make and go with yur gut. Good luck.

If you do the deal have them send several high quality pics.

Find someone on here (who is known, not a guy with one post) to check it out for you and are generally good guys. People are on here from all over. If it was near me I would check it out for you. Also by doing that if the seller does stiff you then you have someone who knows who the seller is and where to find him. We also have a resident attorney who could probably help if it came to that

Just come get mine in SC. Should be an easy drive. You can touch it, love it and feel it before you buy. I think it is still under full warranty too.

I have bought and sold several boats, motors and rigs through this site. No issues to date. Pretty small internet community here. Most that have been around a while know each other (I think we all had to re-register in Jan 09 when the site changed). If the hours are low you should be fine. These things are just like anything else mechanical.

duckduckboom is gonna check on it for me, thanks for the offers to help! Pretty cool the way you guys are willing to take time out of your day to help a guy out ! I used to live in Pineville when I was a teenager, my dad was stationed at England AFB. I lived right off of Edgewood Dr.
