If you run stumps and get hooks, having the back of the boat at the transom open so you can straighten a performance killing hook is a good thing. Most hunt decks don't allow you to get in that area.

I also liked a normal transom to be able to get to the prop- lean against the transom and cut line or stringy veggies wrapped on the prop. With a huntdeck, its harder to do (nothing to hang on to but the hot motor).

Hunt deck for sure. It doubles as a piss deck, no more dribble on the blind.

Is an 18' boat wif hunt deck longer than an 18' boat conventional transom? 50's comment makes it sound like it is.

Fuck a hunt deck. Most of the ones i have seen only cause LESS space in a boat because the space in the Deck is really un useable.

They are great!!Wouldn't own a boat without one!!They look bad ass also ;)Put gas tank, battery, and bilge pump under huntdeck and nothing is in the way!NO space lost :D

Post subject:  Re: Pro's & Con's of a hunt deck

Why not get a longer boat to begin with? Never understood the hunt deck. Lets take a 16' boat and make it an 18' by adding a hunt deck to it. Why not just get an 18' boat and have 18' of useable space. and for those of you that say its a nice place to piss from why not piss off of the front deck.

You right you don't understand!!The hunt deck don't change the lenght of the boat.A gatortail 17 foot boat is 17 foot with huntdeck or not!

A hunt deck DOESNT take up space think about where you put your batteries and everything in the back at you feet with a hunt deck everything is out the way.

Never looked hard at the GT huntdecks, so I can see where you are coming from. The huntecks im referring to are the gator trax. The ones Ive seen you cant put anything in them. Its just a deck added to the backside of the transom.

It helps get the motor and tiller out of the boat so you don't have to stand in the middle to drive it. I love mine.

Good question. Does the hunt deck require a Tiller extension? On a Gatortrax 18, is the inside the same as an 18 without deck, or lose 2 feet? How is backwash? Splash up or knock it down? Excel is doing that with the F4's right? How do those work?

Post subject:  Re: Pro's & Con's of a hunt deck

barrol what they are talking about when they say getting the motor away from you is when you are hunting! when your sitting in the very back of the boat who wants a motor in your face? not me so i like my huntdeck especially hunting from the boat, when im in my seat at the very back the motor is nowhere near me or hanging half way in the middle of the blind its completely out of the way. also with the false transom you dont have any ribs or batteries or gas tanks or anything else in the way of your feet when you need to stand and shoot. when i built my boat i built mine where i can access all the way in, my battery, bilge and whatever else i can tuck in there stays there and aint in the way so there is absolutely no wasted space in my boat with the huntdeck besides i dont like all my gear hanging out in the back so it gets tucked away in the huntdeck. as far as accessing your motor it doesnt get any easier getting to the motor like you can with a huntdeck. i could go on for a couple more paragraphs on why i like the huntdeck, all i know is ill never own another boat without one and everybody that hunts with me says they will never own another boat without one. ill also never have one that i couldnt have access to the inside of the huntdeck either.

@Barrol; why does a pro drive need a tiller extension and the others don't ?
With a hunt deck it looks like the motor is mounted lower, does this make the motor run a little deeper?

I wouldn't run a prodrive on a huntdeck just cause it doesn't have a floating handle the motor kick up smashed hand on the transom that's what it would look like to me

Post subject:  Re: Pro's & Con's of a hunt deck

With a tiller extension is that a problem? Might the same thing happen on a seat or rear deck of a non hunt deck setup? Wonder why the PD has a fixed tiller? Any advantage? Guess we need a PD owner to weigh in...
