hey guys, Im going to go look at a boat on sunday that is as the title says a 1544 G3 with a 16 hp GDLT. This will be my first mud motor purchase so I am wondering what I should check for to make sure everything is in good working order. Also they guy said that the boat normally does around 10mph with an empty boat. To me this sounds a little slow, I was thinking 14-15. Any ideas as what to look for? Thanks guys |

Just make sure you do a test run with it. Check for leaks and make sure the motor runs good with a load on it (prop in the water). edit: Also look at the prop a new prop may gain some speed. |

My first mud rig was a G3. Its slow because the hull cant take the beating and hooks real bad. butt... I don't think that boat has ever driven pass a log, beaver dam, small island, or hut with out jumping it. -Never had a single leak- |

A G3 is a good boat! I am running one now and have 48 hours of pure beating and no hooks or leaks! I hit damn near every stump and run over dang near every tree in da water! 40plus hours have been in maurepas swamp. That should tell you something.I have a custom made skiff on order but that is just cause I need a bigger boat for crawfishing. |

BTW. I run 22-23 in deep water with just me in the boat with a 23 GDSD. I run 20-21 with me one other person and hunting gear. ![]() |

Yeah I am going to try and get down there early enough to test drive it. mcnemar, I eventually want to get a motor like yours for it, a 23 SD but this motor will due for now. I dont plan on hunting alot of places with logs or stumps, we have very few places like that. Actually all we have here is lots and lots of mud...at low tide lol. |

I did get the boat so now I finally have my first mud rig. As soon as I get time to get it registared and tagged I'll take it out and see what all is there. I drove it before I picked it up and its slow, but I figured that with 2 200lb guys and only a 16 hp motor. Here are some pics. Does anyone know where I can get a tach or have any plans for a grab bar? Oh one more thing, the guy said he ran it on a rocky river so he made rock guards for it. I do not run any rivers with rocks so this is not imporant to me. Does anyone know if they are hurting the performace of the boat because if they are i'll take them off Rock guards |

I've never run rock guards, but if you don't need 'em, it can only help to get rid of them. I'm sure they create some amount of drag. As was mentioned earlier, look at your prop. Replacing a worn prop can really bring it back to life. I'm not sure what it should measure, but somebody on here does. You can call Go Devil & get the diameter measurements. good luck & welcome to the mm insanity. ![]() |

looks like a okay rig, but just like everyone else your always going to want something faster... i would just wait and go with a faster rig, because i have done the same thing i started out with a 16, now i run a 23... and if 35 had a pull rope i would run that |
