What year and size and what makes you think there is a problem...

Floor foam can be swapped in an hour by drilling the rivets out
lifting the floor and slippping new foam in --- can be done in an
hour or two - kit with new rivets is under 100 bucks....

Got a full set of replacement foam wrapped in poly in my garage
I will be happy to put it on a digital scale and take a picture to
be sure but - if I had to guess 5 pounds is about right...

Dont think I have a problem , just wondering how much speed im losing by saturated foam weight. I have a 03 1644, just runnin a 23 lt so . Me 265lbs and a full 6 gallon tank im gettin 17mph , is that about right for that motor?

In 2008 - I had a GDSD 1648 hull and 23 GDLT - it ran 19 solo 18 2 man

Also bought a 1999 1644 round .100 - which had the floor foam removed when
I got it - same 23 GDLT ran 17 solo and 15 2 man

Floor was really soft without the foam in that .100 1644.... Later .125
models had no floor foam at all - so you might want to add it if you have
none at all just for extra floatation and to make the bottom of the hull
stouter too.... My 1648 came with none - I got foam and a box from GD
at no charge when they revised the floatation system...

If I remember right - 2003 or so was the model change - the older .100 hull
had NO SIDE CRIMP - the later .125 hulls had a SIDE CRIP - 5 longitudinal
runners instead of 4 and BOTH have the thickness stamped on the rear
of the transom in plain sight....

Either way 3 to 5 years is max life of the floor foam - which has the most
exposure to water and moisture - GD will need your hull SN to send you the
right kit as the "planks" are different widths in the 3 older designs....

100 bucks will cover - foam, rivets, and freight.... Easy job - go for it....

GD might even give it to you - or install it for no charge at their facility
like they did for me and lots of others...

Side and front pods are elevated and semi sealed so - unless a lot of water
stands in the hull they don't get much exposure to moisture and are likely
not affected.... Only hulls in the 10 year and older have claimed major
saturation on side and front pods on MMT and were 2nd and 3rd owners - so
who knows what history led to problems there...

You got a long tail, man. Its not breaking speed records. It is however " nutting up" and pushing you through shit that you would be walking in otherwise. And to do it on plane is impressive. Also, you're a big sumbitch! so enjoy it now, bc after while you get the itch, blow your savings, and buy the sd, just to go faaasssttttt.

Aight thanks guy , I ll more than likely take your advice and replace that foam in the floor this summer. I know im not goin to win any races doin 17mph but just tryin to get all I can out of it. Wolud a carb and exhaust make that much diffrence as far as speed and power? New to the engine mod part.

The 35 GDSD mod will put you in the upper 20s - LOL

Seriously 500 to 1000 in mods will only get you 2 or 3 mph at best....

Those speeds sound good, I too have wondered about the foam, Is it really as easy as you guys say to swap out the foam? I'm not the handiest, but at the same time don't want to spend hundreds of bucks paying somebody to do something that I could do in an hour?

Post subject:  Re: Go-Devil Flotaion Question

Yep - about 20 to 30 rivets to drill out - 10 seconds each with
a good bit the right size - floor lifts out the old "planks" just lift out
hose out the mud and crud - let dry while drinking a beer - drop new
"planks" in might have to shave here and there with a long serated
bread knife or cut a bit of length and trim to fit - drop floor back in
re-rivet also 10 seconds each - done...

Is there something I'm missing here Giga? You keep reiterating "at no charge". Other companies do the same thing for their respective customers so quit acting like GDSD is the only company to give a customer a product. I know for a fact MB, GD, GT & PD all help out their customers whether it be service, parts or warranty work. Don't start thinking that GD is the only one that came up with this incredible marketing strategy to keep customers around.

It seems like the only thing GT sends their customers is Koolaid drink mix... :D

I would sure hope a case gasket job that's still under warranty and replacing insufficient water logged foam would be free of charge.

I'm confused. You keep talking about the kook-aid brigade. Is the jealously, due to the fact you are a wolf pack of one? Or is the pack up to two? Robn do you claim lone wolf?
