So yesterday afternoon I go to test out a 35hp Gdsd. I talked him down to $2700, an '08 model with 152 hrs, seemed like a good deal. We had about an hour to get it off his boat put it on mine and test before he had to leave for work. So we manage to make it to the launch and I only had a little gas in tank. When it started to sputter and die I figured it was out of gas. I went ahead and wrote the check and made the deal. I forgot to mention we was also trying to out run a rain storm so that cut the test short also. After the rain passed I filled up the tank and tried again. When I launched I tried to turn the trim knob and it wouldn't budge, I had to put a pipe wrench on it just to get it to move......strike 1. It starts up good and I take off, ran about about 20 seconds and it killed. I squeezed the bulb and cranked it again and it did the same thing. It ran awesome for 20 seconds at a time.......strike 2. I made back to launch and I wasn't trying to get to strike 3, I called him up and told him what was going on and lucky for me he was a good sport and gave my check back. I figured the fuel pump was bad because the only way it would stay running is if I would squeeze the bulb every 10 to 15 seconds. Both could have probably been fixed but he didn't tell me about those things no telling was else he was holding back. So morale of the story is don't be in a rush and check everything! |

If the trim knob was frozen then the rest of the unit should of not looked to good either, that should of given you a hint. But if you talked him down to $2700.00, then you were getting what you had paid for. Also might of had trash in your tank that got in his engine |

Never rush into any deal, especially when your talking about that much cash... I would never have bought it without running it a solid 1/2 hour or so... If the seller has a problem with that than you know thee is something wrong. Glad you didn;t get the pickle! |

The gas tank was clean, I had a different motor that did the same exact thing and it was the fuel pump, and that would have been an easy fix........$40 maybe. I could have probably fixed the trim knob also but the part that got me was that I asked if there was any issues with the motor he said no everything works fine. Trust me if he wouldn't have given the check back I would have stopped payment for sure and the motor is probably still hanging on the tree branch in his yard. If he would have been honest from the start I would have probably bought the motor anyway and just did the minor repairs. |

Why do you insist that he "lied" to you? You don't think it may be possible that was the first time the motor had any issues and he didn't really see the trim knob as an issue? Most of those GD homos set that trim and pretty much leave it alone. |

FOr what you could have gotten this motor for i could have figured out the problems and spent way less money. What you described are easy fixes, don't pass up a good deal. |

x4, also, sounds like the fuel pump may have went out, 35.00 and 2 minutes to replace and some wd40 on the trim knob and you would have had a heck of a buy |

Doesn't even sound like a fuel pump really, sounds like trash. |

At the top I put that maybe the fuel pump just went out, and as far as the trim knob maybe y'all are right and he actually thought that it is made to where it doesn't work, because as I said earlier he said "that's just how they are" so y'all could possibly be right. But likeI also stated if he would have told me about it from the start the motor would still be on my boat, but the way I see it is that if he held that back no telling what else he is not saying. I may be wrong. |

"very lucky or very smart person to give my check back"???? WTF.... " I just wish he wouldn't have lied to me from the jump". Ever thought he was just a good guy to deal with and he didn't want you pissed? Sorry to say this, but it sounds like you are the kind of guy I can't stand dealing with. |

I can't see him lying about it. Especially since he gave you the check back. Because he couldve told you to just get lost. I'm thinking it was one of those shit happens deals and probably an easy fix. |

why dont you post up the info on the motor so one of us can contact the guy and buy it for $2500 and but $10 into and resell for $3500-3800? |

Raise your hand if you've ever driven an hour to the ramp to go fishing, hunting, or joy riding and your motor wouldn't crank or run right. That doesn't make him a liar. My trim knob froze on me this past year and I use my boat at least once a week, but I don't have to adjust it very often at all. Saltwater got in there and locked it up. A pipe wrench and anti seaze and it's good as new. Now if I was the seller and knew you were coming to look/buy my motor, I would have spent a good hour, making sure everything worked and was clean. But everyone has their own way of selling things and sometimes you have to be able to see a diamond in the rough. |

He is starting to sound like a reporter for some cheap paper who is practicing writing articles. When he said the guy was lucky or smart shows that he is trying to get something for nothing. Good luck with the MB. That is what the Lord wanted you to have in the beginning but just gave you the run around. |
